That’s what caught my attention. How can the synopsis say she “thinks she feels” when clearly in the first chapter she says she does. What kind of sick game are they playing with us? I don’t think I can handle it. Of course I’m going to read it cause it’s killing me to find out what the heck kept Eric from going to Sookie. Gah!

Gahhh, this makes me feel nervous. I think I’m gonna wait until you have all read the book and if it ends in a way that means there’s no chance of an Eric/Sookie happily ever after, I shall stop reading at book 9 and surround myself in fanfiction!
I’ve already picked my fave fan fiction ending, just in case I have to toss book 10 and attach my own (self-selected) ending to the series…
Okay, let’s hear this…c’mon guys…share your favorite fanfic ending…I will enjoy killing the time til May! Unfortunately, my favorite so far was written before Book 9 came out and DAG kind of negated parts of it, but the voice is so consistent with the book…and the movement of time (anyone else notice how compressed time is in the books. If you actually tracked it by Sookie’s identifiers, sometimes only 2 or three days passes and yet TONS of crazy shit hits the proverbial fan!).

Oh Maria, I cried like a baby after that last chapter. lol She’s really good at capturing Eric. Honestly, she writes like a professional writer – you would think it was CH herself that was writing that version. Just incredible.
I love the last chapter too…when he remembers all the promises he made her…so sweet! Reading this story also makes me realize how blind Sookie is to Eric’s feelings/actions.

It made my day to see the story updated, VL. And I agree with you about DAG. There are a lot of negative reviews and I thought the book would be terrible before I read it. But I couldn’t put it down. I lent it to my sister and friend who liked it a lot as well. I do think Sookie was uncharacteristically mean to Eric but I chalk it up to the fact that she’s been through a lot since DTTW. I was just happy to see that Sookie and Eric had FINALLY started their relationship.
I love all the suggestions for fanfic!! I need a fix before the new book comes out! It helps to keep me occupied!
Harris doesnt meantion what Sookie did wit the bullet she saved. I think its a little strange she threw it on the ground then decided to keep it.
Im not so sure it was Eric Niall meant bc why would he state the obivious? Niall already meantions Erics feelings for Sookie at the resterant. I think maybe it was Bill bc Niall didnt kno Bill until the rescue. (Naill is very good at immediate obsversations)Any thoughts?

I have very, very high hopes that she will dig it out one day and realise that she actually DID have feelings for him before the blood bond. I’m hoping that’s why (plot wise) she still has it….
When Eric wanted to see her (book 1) she thought Eric might rape her. All she knew of him was that he was tryin to glamour her the on their visit encounter, he is powerful and other vampires have to listen to him. It wasnt until book 2 when he protects her wit his body that shes less resentfull towards him and actually starts to trust him. She didnt mind the blood bond. But i think it was too soon for her to “love” him at that moment. I think book 3 is when she apprecaited Eric and she starts to develop feelings for him. I also think her feelings really popped for him in book 4.
I’m not saying she loved him when she kept the bullet….Just that she certainly didn’t hate him, as some would have us believe.
I think Sookie did well not gettin up wit Eric. I also think the fact that he would kno her feelings was a lil comforting. It did come in handy at the orgy.

Not to make light of something as serious as rape, but was this before or after the mud sex or any other aggressive attempts by Bill? If so, it’s no wonder she’d be thinking that w/ all the positive reinforcement from her BF no less. I imagine her first time w/ Eric was a nice surprise.

Bill did make Eric sound scary “if he wants you i’ll have no choice but to let him take you” (something along those lines)

I also think it might have been Bill because where was the line drawen with Bill? For me personally I question Bills every move, every action, every conversation. What did he actually do involving Sookie that completely disregards the Queens assignment or his own selfish motives? Bill said he fell for Sookie but when exactly? Its really hard to look past everything Bill has ever done and believe Bill when he tells Sookie he loves her. How can we know that is sincere? Bills action are jus not excusable. As far as we know Sookie feels the same way. So Naill mentioning Bill would make sense bc its like a reassurance that Bill, despite everything, truly loves her.

It really doesn’t makes sense at all because since Niall met Sookie, the only one he called “the vampire” is Eric.
I think the audience and Sookie are well aware of how much Bill loves her. Niall’s profound, parting words about ‘the vampire loves you’ would seem so redundant if he was just mentioning the loner, stalker undead guy across the cemetary, who whines about his undying devotion for her all the time.
I don’t think so. She already knew Bill loved her. He’d only just told her so (“sweetheart I have always loved you. I would be honoured to die in your service”). And Sookie mentions or infers repeatedly throughout the series that she is aware Bill still loves her/has feelings for her.
A common theme through the books has been Sookie’s uncertainty about Eric’s true character (“the vampire is not a bad man”) and her uncertainty about the depth of his feeling for her (and he loves you).
There is never going to be an explicit clarification on this in a future book (CH has said that she feels everything we need to know to clarify it is in the text). I agree with her, to me it’s clear – just from the text.
i admitt the first time i read that i thought hands down Eric. Than i read it over and over got to thinkin and second guessed myself. I’m sure ur right it is Eric.
If you look through Book 9, there are two or three other specific places in which Niall refers to Eric as “the vampire”… I will have to dig out some citations…
Hands down it’s Eric. CH even said she’d thought she’d made her intention pretty clear and was surprised at all the questioning (though, of course, our lovely Charlaine never actually CONFIRMED it was Eric!).
As SVB said, there won’t be any further explaination…it’s in the text. So, it wouldn’t make sense for it to be Bill.
There are so many logical reasons if you look at it from a strait forward POV. Look at it this way (atleast this is what I do)
Who does Niall have the history with to make such a statement of character? Eric. He only just met Bill and while his actions were admirable I don’t think he would merit Bill “a good man” based only on that. Plus, I’m willing to bet he knows Eric would have done the same thing had he had the chance. It’s Sookie that is in limbo about Eric.
Plus, I’m guessing Claudine had already filled Niall in about Sookie’s two lovers. All of it. Who would you trust your great-grandaughters safety and heart? Somehow I doubt Niall would be able to look past the betrayal, rape, etc. Especially when the alternative is Eric, someone that you have already deemed trustworthy and good enough to be “her man.”
Niall knows that by vamp law Eric is her husband. If he were referring to another vampire he could be potentially putting Sookie in harms way.
If he meant Bill he would have just said Bill. Had he considered Sookie’s inept deduction skills he would have faired better doing so. But, he probably thought (like CH assumed we would) she would just know. Given Niall’s knowledge of the situation he wouldn’t reckognize anyone other than Eric as “her vampire” and honestly isn’t that what he’s implying? He’s saying it to her.

yes, maybe we were so concerned with Apio we forget the FDC! Obviously he did not give up Sookie, I’m finding it harder than to be with Sookie, Eric has to be KING!
The CH puts many lines in the story that I doubt that will give time to develop all … Apio think it’s just smoke bomb!

As you all have already said: “thinks she feels”???? OMFG. But I’m convinced that’s just deliberate publisher ambiguity. Nothing–not even words from CH herself–will convince me that Sookie doesn’t love him.
The FDC thing is not surprising. He was a slimy bastard from day one. But I have every confidence the Viking will take care of him. And maybe we’ll see Appius in this plot line. But maybe–gasp!–he’ll actually help Eric deal with FDC. Now that would be a twist. And, of course, this makes me think that FDC might have been the reason Eric didn’t rescue Sookie. Maybe Eric defies FDC to eventually get to her at the hospital and that leads to this “scrutiny.”
And I agree with Stefanie that Claude seems like the most likely faery culprit.
What are we talking here…9-10 weeks? I can’t wait!
I took the “thinks” she feels as a reference to Sookie’s constant “oh I have feelings for him but I don’t know if they’re real or the blood bond” WAH WAH WAH.

FDC has long been my bet for the reason Eric didn’t show up in DAG, carastick I think that’s def looking more likely now. Been waiting two books for FDC to finally get fed up with Eric’s cockblocking…yay for seeing some action.
@Jo – definitely think too that it’s looking more likely that Appius will turn up because of FDC. I’m still not convinced he’s going to be a benevolent force though. The way Eric spoke of him in DAG didn’t bode well for a warm and fuzzy relationship.
Appius could potentially be called in by FDC to reign Eric in. (Ugh I just totally flashed back to that BS TB moment when Eric called in Lorena…) Also I have to wonder…since Eric is bonded to Sookie, and makers have a very strong blood-bonded hold over their children, could Appius exert control through the blood bond to effect Sookie? Eric as a blood bond conduit? With FDC pulling Appius’ strings?
I agree that its possible the blood bond could act as a way to get to Sookie through Eric, but Sookie thus far seems to be pretty resistant to any magical influences. I think Appius will definitely be showing up because of FDC, but hey! maybe Appius will turn out to help Eric in the end? I still wonder since DITF begins in March if her an Eric have already had their talk about why he wasn’t there to rescue her? You’d think that she would want to know right way.

You would think she would wonder and ask, but that is the one thing about book-Sook that annoys the hell out of me…she will mentally do an “I wonder what that means” or “I need to find out more about that…” and then NEVER ASK!!!! WTF, could she not ask another vampire what a blood bond does, could she not ask Bill? Wouldn’t Sam, who seems to know everything, be able to answer questions (he sure knows a lot about FDC and his holdings). So, maybe the talk hasn’t happened because book-Sook hasn’t decided to deal with it.

i was thinkin Eric didnt show because he was tryin to strike a deal with the faries to spare Sookie. Whatever kept him, i think he was using his connections/authority to his advantage for Sookies benefit.

But we do have to remember that Sookie IS ambivalent about her feelings towards Eric. She loves him but she doesn’t quite know that she would without the BB. So I think that “thinking” she loves him is not necessarily a wholly terrible concept, because Sookie isn’t sure herself. She DOES think she loves him, but her own emotions are potentially very biased until the BB is weakened from her POV.
As far as angry fae, I agree with Claude…but also Dermot was never killed during the war and was most likely sealed on Earth. Niall said Dermot was unaccounted for among the dead. So I imagine that Dermot is more likely to go all Fae Hulk Angry on Sook than Claude.

Its important for Sookie to have control over her own emontions and to know if what she feels is real. With or without the blood bond i think she’s still goin to be very attrached to Eric. who wouldnt
You guys are right re the love thing – it really is more of the same. At least she’s willing to even consider it may be love now whereas before she would die before uttering the “L” word. I’m still nervous. They’re killing me.
I think the fairy may be Dermot and if it is, I’d be anxious to see how Claude would come into play. I think it might be more interesting to me if it were Dermot.

I think he is basically a good guy but he is weak, and he is impulsive. His heart rules his head much of the time and that is the reason he’s found himself at such a disadvantage and so open to manipulation. He is ultimately a pawn.
Yet fire in a man is an attractive quality, and Quinn certainly has that too.

The synopsis on http://www.amazon.co.uk stands unchanged, and the release date in the U.K. is May 27, 2010, only 23 days later than here in the colonies, so I would guess that the blurb was obtained from the British pubisher, and is probably as true as the new one on the Amazon core site. Ambiguity is CH’s friend, right?
Is it wrong that I want to attack CH for uttering the words “the love she thinks she feels for vampire Eric Northman.” My blood is boiling even though I agree that the girl is fickle as hell (just as fickle as CH). Why even tackle the “love” issue in the synopsis? I much prefer the previous interlude regarding thier “relationship”. Atleast that didn’t sound like Sookie is a naive 16 year old! Isn’t Sookie supposed to have matured though all this shit? She thought she loved Bill too, I’d like to think she learned the difference since then.

I don’t think Claude is the angry fairy only because Claude meets with Sookie, talks to her and doesn’t seem to be angry, just confused and wants to know what happend to Claudine. If he’s angry with anyone it would have to be Niall. Niall is the one who told Claudine to watch over Sookie. Heck, Claude could be mad at all the vamps and shifters in Bon Temps and Shreveport too. I’m think Dermot is lurking around in Sookie’s yard or he’s moving in with Jason. He’ll work to get to Sookie that way. Maybe use Jason as some type of pawn. IDK I just hope its good.

You’re not the only person who thinks Claude will be upset. When I read the summary for book 10 the first fairy that came to my mind was Claude. When i read the chapter he didnt seem hostile. I dont think we seen the last of Dermot though. I kinda think Dermot will be watching from a distance and find out about Hunter. I wont be suprise Dermot revisits Jason at some point.

In an interview i saw Harris admitts she doesnt want the series to get stale. Shes wants the 13th book to be the last but hasnt quiet made her mind up yet.
I gotta give it to Harris, thinkin of ideas for something as complicated as the Sookie Stackhouse novels has got to take some serious brain power exspecailly if she has a time limit. I imagine it gets really stressful at times

Normally, I wouldn’t think twice about a statement like that but w all her sketchiness lately I agree gigi, it’s unnerving. I’m sick of endgames that don’t add up and I swear it’s becoming a habit w writers these days. TV shows are the worst for this…and if this series falls into that trap (BC of True Blood) I’m gonna freak. If I look at the arc of these books I see only one possible option: Eric. I literally have written dissertation length analysis of that very fact, and still I fear that CH could pitch all of that and chalk it up to misinterpretation. I have my fingers crossed that it is just a sick and twisted marketing tactic but really I don’t see the point. Who are they trying to entice? The 80% of her loyal book followers that are team eric? That makes no sense.
My only hope is that her “thinking” she loves him, is better than feeling it alone and worrying the BB is causing it. Maybe she actual thought about something for once…you know reflected on the past 3 yrs…gained some self-knowledge. That I can appreciate.
Just for some added assurance. I re-read some of her previous synopsis’s and they aren’t impressive either. I think most of us are just sick and tired of being jerked around. I think it was a mistake to agree to the additional 3-4 books.
Side note: The FDTW synopsis says “Sookie faces danger, death…and once more betrayal by someone she loves.” I always assumed this was Quinn…but I was under the impression that she was unsure of her depth of feelings for Quinn and specifically said “hoped to love.” WTF? Anyone…

RECE, we know not? we are sure, is a mathematician, of course, EVERYTHING that leads to the end … but still a simple word makes us doubt the obvious, but I think that’s why I at least feel abandoned, I feel a conspiracy in the air … what ‘s happening in some places it is quite obvious, they think that distort reality and raise slander, or make enough campaign against us will prevail by sheer insistence, and it’s hard to think that neither the benefit of the doubt is given to us … and that’s what hurts me.

well the summary def gotta readers attention so the marketing tactic worked. Readers want a happy ending, eric fans want Eric and Sookie together. Book nine was unclear; there was a lot of “what if” left. Im glad Harris is comin out wit another book because book 9 has a lot of lose ends. I still think Sookie is coming to terms with her feelings (shes still unsure) and thats where the “think” comes in.

I’m extremely skeptical when it comes to vampires. Regardless of everything Eric has done to help Sookie (savin her life blah blah blah) Eric is still a vampire and a very good one at acting. Because hes so old he has an advantage; hes had the time to learn & perfect his capablies as well as add to them. I’ve notice Eric hasnt done anything for sookie he didnt know he could recover from, or get away wit. Bullets? be deal, posin as a body guard, callin dr lugwid, stakin long shadow, spying in other areas, giving her blood, killin humans, drivin her home, replacing her driveway, using his sheriff title/area control, trackin Sookie, Persuasion, surrending,replacing the phone he broke yeah yeah very heroic. The only time I think Eric’s probability of gettin killed was high was during the fairy war in the hostipal. i didnt meantion the fight aganist the king of Arknass bc Eric didnt actually do anything for sookie other than kiss her than run off on his high (“bowling for vampires”)He wanted in the fight, not for Sookies sake.
i hope that didnt stress anyone out. I’ve taken into consideration if the series ended at book 9 everything Eric has done was in good faith. Meanin he must realli care for Sookie, no twists or hidden motives. But the series contuines. We’ll find out.

I also don’t see Claude as the angry fae, I am guessing Dermott. Claude didnt seem that pissed about his other sister’s death. Plus, it was cluadine’s will to protect Sookie and she was supposedly doing it to become an angel, so I think Claude is more likely to pick up where his siter left off and help Sookie.
Appius could very likely be contacted by FDC for bringing Eric around, but I think his involvement will lead to Sookie having the witches break the BB with her and Eric- hopefully she is sure she still loves him.
I think his involvement is gonna lead to one more dead Ex at the end of Sookie’s righteous stake!!! Bring on the cloak of female empowerment once more!!! (Thanks for the imagery, Bradeatspeeps!)
i thought about Claude taking Claudines place but shut that idea down. Claudine was order/sent (whichever) by the fairy Lord/Prince (Nail) to protect/watch over Sookie. When Nail is out of the picture Claude is free from orders and fairy politics. I doubt he’ll watch over Sookie. Thats not his responsablity. Plus i dont think he realli likes Sookie. Maybe he’ll want to avenge Claudines death the same way he did Claudettes.
Harris left Claude alive and around (out of fairy world) Sookie for a reason so im betting his character be enhance. Him showing up in the first chapter is already signficant.
Maybe Harris plans on involving Claude wit Hunter, they are related after all.I highly doubt that but its fun to wonder and debate about the unknown.
That one little line about Sookie “thinking” she loves THE VIKING could be a just a bone for the “Beeels Babes”, making them think that perhaps there is a chance for their pasty vamp. If it said anything different, none of them would ever want to pick the book and read it, let alone pay money for it.

Yeah, I’m totally freaking over the ‘thinks she loves him’ thing as well. I’m trying to be optimistic about it, but its tough. I mostly just want to throw something or bang my head against the wall or something. That line just totally ruined all of the excitement I felt at first seeing this ‘official’ synopsis. Damn it. Damn it. Oh, and DAMN IT! This really plays hell with my whole positive thinking vibe I’ve been trying. Oh well, like Emily said in an earlier post on here…if things don’t end with an Eric HEA then I’m moving to Fan Fiction World…after I drink a bottle of tequila and light something on fire, lol.
But the part about Eric being under scrutiny from the King does definitely lends credence to the hypothesis that FDC was behind the reason for Eric’s no-show in DAG.
I’m also wondering if the angry fae will be Claude or Dermot. I could honestly see it going either way, though Claude didn’t come across as really pissed in the first chapter but things are often not as they appear in CH’s novels. I believe SVB had a theory before (it may not have been here, but I know I read somewhere) about maybe that Dermot wasn’t actually evil because he never really did anything bad, even when he had the opportunity to (like with Jason). I could just see a scene in which Sookie is caught between the two of them and Claude is actually the one trying to kill her and Dermot is trying to save her. That’d be the kind of mindfuckery I could see happening in a CH book. Of course, then again it could very well be the other way around as well.

I think it was Dan who wrote about Dermot. I also think the Claude/Dermot situation could go either way and also have your same vibe about an encounter between the three of them, though is difficult to think Claude could rebel against Niall. But, who knows? CH somehow seems to be shaking the foundations of the series… m..

yay i have ur attention. Off the top of my head both guys give a lot of attention to only her breast as their form of forplay. Harris makes a point of meantioning Sookie aching with longing/desire and Sookie yanking both guys to jus the right spot. The words “Now” “Oh yes” are uses in both senes before either guy enters.I cant remember if eric was going back and forward wit each tit the way Quinn was.
Still, Quinn and Sookie only had sex once. Which I find incredibly odd — as if they never had other chances to.
I thought the synopsis was promising. I’m assuming the publisher either writes or approves it being written to appeal to the widest possible market (including the unfortunate, surely to be disappointed BLs). I’ll take “Sookie thinks she loves Eric” over “Sookie thinks the BB makes her feel like she loves Eric” any day;)
The synopsis could also support my theory that Eric kept FdC in the dark about Sookie’s fae heritage to protect her from being used by LV the way Quinn is used. Bringing other vamps to the fight would have also demonstrated unequivocally to FdC that Eric was willing to take vamps to war *against effin’ fairies* for a human woman, which would be a definite violation of the “vamps first” rule and give LV leverage over Eric by knowing the true depth of his feelings for her. If Niall has closed the fae portals, Sookie’s fae heritage can’t be used against her but if FdC knows Eric loves Sookie, FdC can control Eric and Sookie to his own ends and we all know how Eric would just love *that*.
Finally though, I’m putting my money on Eric and Sookie, against FdC (and Appius if *he* intends to get in the way) because they have proven to be a formidable team.
BTW, I too think the very, very angry fae is Claude…
i was thinking about Quinn early and i stumbled across an idea. Quinn is a smart cleaver guy and he picks up on things fast. When Quinn first meets Sookie she was with two fairies. She mentioned Claudine being her fairy guardian. Quinn knows a lot about all kinds of the sups . It’s a possibility he knows about fairy politics and habits as well; the fact that fairies are very secretive. Yet 2 are with Sookie, protecting her, and they haven’t hid the fact that their fairies. In book 6 Quinn over hears sookie talking to Eric about her having fairy blood. Then The kings minion realize there’s something big about Sookie when Eric breaks her phone (Quinn was right outside so I bet he hear that conversation). I think its very possible Quinn figure out Sookies connection with the fairies and told the Neveda vampires.

FDC already knows Eric is very close to Sookie. FDC wants to take control over Sookie because it would give him power over Eric, Eric pledge to avoid that. FDC must know someone as ruthless as Eric wouldn’t pledge to a human woman unless there was an importance there. Erics done to many thing to show he has feelings for Sookie.
Ok…after reading all the post on SVB I definaetly feel we all have a lot to think about and consider. There are a lot of possibilities on what will happen with eric and sookie. And all of them sound plausable. Yes I too freaked out when I read “Just about the only bright spot in her life is the love she thinks she feels for vampire Eric Northman.” I was think WTF CH better not ruin all the time and effort she put into these two characters. I don’t think I will send all my books back if something does happen to the couple, but I know I will be very very dissapointed. I am rereading some of the books and it truly makes sense for eric and sookie to be together, and of course they are going to have several road blocks in their paths. AHHH this is making me crazy. I am being hit with a huge done of wishful thinking….
By that, I mean that…technically, without the book synopsis, we had been left with an angry and hurt Sookie that didn’t know why Eric hadn’t shown, but appeared to allow him to stick around her and help her and explain his actions to her.
And just at the end of the book, Niall’s words (which couldn’t have been about anyone but Eric, that was the one character that Sookie could doubt in her moment of weakness, since he wasn’t there) …. I was wondering to what level Niall may have been aware of what happened to Eric, and why Eric had to send Bill with Niall (as far as I recall, Bill and Niall didn’t have a connection or contact other than Eric) to get Sookie (possibly) instead of going himself. Thus he letting Sookie know that he had seen proof of…something (Sookie doesn’t really need proof about Bill at this point, he keeps yapping about it). Eric loves her but may be unable to show it for her own safety (and his own, even).
And most of all, we had been left with an unsure Sookie that even as she was together with Eric, was doubting her own feelings because of he BB. So she thinks she could love him, but doesn’t trust the bond. In that 1st chapter she says she loves him, but I’d bet anything that she’ll have more doubts, even after saying the L word.
Short version: At the end of book 9, Sookie has feelings but doesn’t trust the bond, so doesn’t want to commit to the L word without knowing for sure. Eric may have not shown up and sent Bill instead because he was detained (or closely watched) and/or couldn’t let FDC know the truth. That may include hiding his feelings to a point that Sookie may doubt hers.
But they better be together in the end or I’ll be pissed.
That’s where the synopsis could come in.
As to what may happen…anything can happen.
CH is adept at throwing misleading lines anyways.
i actually kinda thought Nail meant Bill. That realli bothered me that i didnt know for sure which vampire Nail was referring to. i think both of them love her but i think. Bill knew Sookie was takin because he saw it, not Eric. I dont think Eric sent Bill, Bill wanted to find her! Bill didnt care what it took. It would have taken Eric to long to drive from Sherevport to Bon Temps than start tracting Sookie. because Nail can “blink” as transportation it was wise for Bill and Nail to start trackin right away.

Idk why you all are so surprised. Really. The author has been dropping STRONG HINTS for months now. CH has cleverly used the BB to cloud Sookie’s feelings or lack of feelings, however it’s been pretty clear Eric=Sex. Eric = A Good Time. From CD, Sookie thinks an adult doesn’t just have sex bc the other person, Eric, “is skilled and pretty.” But she does anyway. The clues have been there all along. I guess the funny one liners from Eric have swayed readers the wrong way. He’s been distracting true, but a partner for LIFE? No, I don’t think so.
Oh, M.Shar…I respect your right to your own opinion, but I do wonder why you would choose to voice it here. Aside from the one-liners, (and the sexy sexy), who saved Sookie from Longshadow, stayed and protected Sookie from Fellowship bombers, helped heal Sookie after she was staked, valued and loved her while Jason was missing, sends a guard to watch over her when a sniper shows up and helps out her friends, followed her to NO and came to her rescue when the Pelts took her, saved her from being bonded, owned and used by Andre, commits to making sure she survives the Nevada takeover and does what is necessary to keep her from being co-opted by FDC??? Oh, yeah…that was ALL ERIC. When does Bill save her??? Oh, the very first attack by the Ratrays (which was his fault because he was late…and which allowed him to give her his blood and thereby accelerate their relationship via the blood connection) and the very end during the Fae War. However, he also increased her risk by announcing to Victor that a)FDC could use Sookie as leverage against him and b) that he and Eric have a tense relationship!

Actually aside from the fairy war and the rattrays bill did a few other things. Bill was always around for Sookie, (making sure no one was creeping around in her woods) it might have been for his own selfish reasons, but he did do more than what u mentioned. He would have helped her more than he did if Sookie didn’t send him away and if Eric didn’t order him around (book 7)
Eric didn’t save Sookie from the fellowship that was the shifters. And for the recorded it was Bill who ran around Dallas trying to find and rescue her, not Eric.
You’re right. Bill would have helped her more. Especially before he gave his money to the Bellefleurs and he didn’t care about Sookie’s home and financial needs even when he almost lived with her, used all her house utilities and “love” her.
And BTW, what you said was “always been around for Sookie” was nothing else than been stalking her, a very common and calculated behavior among domestic abusers once the victims separates from them, but as we all know, Sookie was too naive and inexperienced to understand what was his real purpose. As calculated and deliberated as was his purpose of return to Bon Temps to seduce her for the Queen’s benefit also taking advantage of her naivety and inexperience.

He protected her during the party at Stans (famous bullet) but the were’s helped her escape and Eric took up where they left off. He began the healing process before Bill got back from where ever the hell he was.

At times you seem like you really like Eric and other times I get the feeling that you can’t stand him. The only definite thing I know about you so far is that you love Quinn, a lot. hehe.. I read the books out of order. I read book four first. The whole Eric and Sookie thing was soo exciting to me. Of course after that I wanted to see her wit Eric, not Bill, but was curious what happened to Bill.
Then the second book i read was book 6. When I read about Bill’s assignment I was so pissed. That kinda of thing really hits a nerve for me, so does rape. I hated Bill with such Intensity its hard to describe. Even though its just a book I took it personally. I actually had that gut sinking feeling. I was genuinely hurt and felt horrible for Sookie. I also looked at it as if it was me Bill was talkin to. I had to take a min before I cld continue reading.
After book 6 I read book 3, I can understand why Sookie wanted to help Bill even after she knew cheating was fact but after that she should have disconnected herself. i was pissed Sookie didnt outcast him after the trunk situation. She took it was too lightly and that wasnt okay wit me, I was very pissed at sookie. She seemed more concerned with the cheating than the rape.
Then I read book one. Since I already knew about Bill I hated him. All that aside, in the first book Bill wasn’t anything special with Sookie. If Bill had approached me in the same matter (everything exactly the same) I wouldn’t have gave Bill the time of day; i wouldnt have gone as far as sookie did, maybe after the third time wit him that wld have been enough to turn me off. He wasn’t supportive at all about her grandma. “Shut up” WTH? Immediately after that she has sex wit him? To me that was jus insane. Lackin experience in that scenario is an excuse. Either she didn’t have common sense, wasn’t thinkin, or was jus plain stupid. Sookie didn’t seem to care about her grans death. She actually seemed to take it lightly and was happy that now she had space all for herself. If I was sookie I most defiantly wldnt have asked him to the vamp bar. She made a lot of mistakes; ultimately digging her own grave.
The list goes on with Bill. Bill parading around the party, in book 2, leavin her alone wit a room full of vamps wasn’t smart, or carin like at all. I didn’t press that too much bc Eric step in at least shortly, he was familiar so thats comfortable. But Who was concerned wit Sookies safety? It wasn’t Bill. She did the smart thing and left him. he didn’t care enough to talk about it right than and there. But she goes back to him. Stupid stupid stupid.
I like Eric a lot. I didn’t really like his attitude in book 8. He seemed to care if Sookie was killed, but willing for that to happen to save his own ass. Im not sure how I feel about that. She lets Victor in cause Eric gave the go head. I wld have left Victor outside. After the surrender I would have rescinded everyone’s invitation and stayed wit Amelia, not have Eric sitting on my bed returning to normal.
I have trust problems so I always look at things in a negative perspective. I try to figure people out first hand, (call me judgmental). I always expect the worst from people. So far Eric is alright, but in Harris’s world, vamps aren’t as lovely as they appear to be first hand that’s why I been question Eric. And yes it makes great debates to throw out my thoughts for pervious books and well as future books. Im not sure if I believe myself that’s Eric is gonna screw Sookie over but it wouldn’t be a total shock. it will be predictable if harris keeps havin Eric show up to Sookies rescue.
Tracey, have you re read the whole series in the right order? I think you’d find it would be very well worth it! It’s the only way to really get a grasp on the character development, particularly Sookie, Eric and Bill. Even though each book has a self contained “mystery” story, the development of the three main characters is a process that spans the entire series.
I think I’m getting a better handle on why you view some of these characters the way you do, not saying that your opinion isn’t justified but perhaps that a deeper understanding of their motivations and progress would come with reading the books in the order they were written, it really does make such a difference.

After season 2 I tried to read book 1. I couldn’t bring myself to read past page 45; I thought it was gonna be exactly like HBO. I didn’t care for season 2 HBO, readin bout Mary-Anna would have been a drag.
I knew “Dead Until Dark” was the first book and “Living in Dallas” was the second thanks to the HBO series and the summary on the back of the book. Other than those two I had no idea which was the right order (it didn’t occur to me to until later to google it). I didn’t even know there were so many books.
So months later I decided to try again, I thought reading a random book within the series would motivate me and it did. I went to the library and pick book 4 n 6 which were the only two books available at that moment. (I knew it was part of the series but not which number book it was)
I loved book six and couldn’t wait to read the rest of the books. I read pretty fast. I took a day sometimes a day and a half without sleep to finish readin. My boyfriend thought I was nuts. He said “we got to get you a job to prevent you from turning into a vampire” lol. I slept one entire day and he was worried. He left me a voice message in a singing tone saying “wake up ur tush, wake up ur squish, if u stay up all night reading books ur brain turns to mush” lol
After I read book 5 I read book 6 again which made a difference. I picked up on a lot of stuff I missed first time and some things made more sense. I also paid more attention to details. I plan on reading the whole series in order sometime soon. Although I do like readin out of order bc its take the pressure off “whats gonna happen next” kind of thing.

M.Shar, you are very rude to post here. This is my first time I post here. If you read the books, you would know that Bill was very abusived to Sookie. Sookie was in abusive relationship with Bill and the best thing she did was to walk out on him in book 3.
oh come on, everyone is entitled to their own opinons. Besides if Eric isnt a good like partner then neither is Bill. Both are vampires and neither will be a good life partner for obivious reason. Unless Sookie stops growing I dont neither guy will be interested when Sookie: is old, sick, on medication, and needs a walkin cane
I agree with you provided the argument is based on strictly their vampirism. Other than that Bill and Eric are complete opposites. I think that Eric has qualities, which Bill does not, that I would look for in a good life partner. It all depends on what Sookie decides she ultimately wants. I’d scrap the kids idea in a heartbeat…I’d also like retaining my independence during the day. The shifters (though I liked Alcide) kinda wierd me out. My point is when the time comes I think Sookie will make the best decision for her. And, I don’t think that any “label” vamp, shifter, human will determine that. She is very open-minded. I hope she chooses a life partner based on the individual and not a particular “lifestyle”. I want Sookie to be happy. It’s sort of like marrying for money. And we all know money doesn’t buy happiness. If she chooses based on anything but TRUE LOVE…then she’ll always regret it.

I agree with that! Kids at this point for Sookie is a really bad idea. Shifter politics are jus too much to handle! Sookie can be selfish at times. However, Sookie’s meantioned a few times it wouldnt be right to be with someone just because they are the strongest, most equip to protect her. I doubt she’d choose a life partner based on how deadly they are. (which of course is eric) As far as money, Sookie likes to make her own living, shes not shallow. If she does chose anyone (that has been meantioned) or finds someone along the way she’d be with them for the right reasons.
Maybe you misunderstood me. I don’t think she’d choose someone based on an ability to protect her. Although, that did remind me of when she mentions something in bk 8 about the comparison of choosing a mate based on defence and how it would relate to choosing someone for their “desirable traits” to pass along to future generations. Good ole Darwin-survival of the fittest. She realizes that if she could have Eric’s child (which obvi she can’t)he would have been at the top of her list. It hadn’t even occured to her that she had a list. Still, in that moment of impulse she chose Eric–she’s dating Quinn at the time AND he actually can have children–but Eric would be her first choice? That tells me that Eric (atleast,in Sookie’s eyes) possess qualities that WOULD make him a good life partner. His being a vampire doesn’t even factor into the equation. And you know who else doesn’t…BILL!lol
I wasn’t meaning to say SOOKIE would marry for money. I was simply using it to get my point across in a way that we might relate to. In the “real world” aka no vampires, weres, fae…there is no distinct comparison for Sookie’s suitor conundrum. Therefore, the easiest ex. IMO is marrying for money over true love…the way Sookie COULD choose to be with a human JUST-or even in part– to escape the supernatural world and it’s implications on the life she desires.
Sookie needs to figure out WHAT she wants and get her priorities in check. Her indications so far have led me to believe her heart lies with Eric. So as the series sits so far, IMO if Sookie ends up with anyone else it would seem as though she settled (i.e. Sam). If CH dazzles me with a compelling Sam-Sookie love story in these last 3 books I’m all for it. Well, maybe I wouldn’t be that excited (after 9 books of otherwise) but I would accept it. The reason I get frustrated and thus angry at the thought of Eric not being “the one” is bc IMO CH has written it to be so. I can only speak for myself but my main issue is getting to the end and feeling as though the first 9 books were pointless. In other words, CH just needs to make it believable in terms of the journey Sookie has taken.
everyone seems to think of Sam as consolation! he’s cool and I like it, but in 9 books he did NOTHING to earn the love of Sookie basically he sits waiting for her to fall into his lap, but I feel Sam has no chance if the only quality it is able to children Sookie, is ridiculous as I said, 9 books for her end with the underdog?!? what!

I wonder how important childern are for Sookie. Shes not realli lookin to “settle down” shes lookin for someone to be with, someone to make her happy. Eric does jus that.
I’ve also wondered about Sookie’s true feelings on wanting to be a mother or not. I think that she’s still stuck on the idea of a “normal” life: married with kids. But she’s NOT normal. I’m sure a part of her does want children and a family. I think she’s slowly chipping away at the life she imagined having. But I don’t know if she ever really considered having children of her own bc of her “disability” it would be double as hard hearing two steady voices.
I think that Sookie’s world has changed so much after Bill came into her life that she’s just trying to get her head on straight. She’ll figure out what makes her happy (whatever that ends up being) and will “settle down” with that peace of mind.
I just think that out of all of Sookie’s men Sam is the only other option that hasn’t let her down. That’s why people are open to him as a potential in “conselation” of Eric. But you’re right he hasn’t pursued her romantically since the first book. I respect that though bc Sookie is not receptive of that attention. It would actually be rather inappropriate given he is her boss.lol Sam’s made it known that he care deeply for Sookie so if she were to ditch the viking (lord help me if she does) Sam wouldn’t be a bad choice. Unless CH makes some amazing recovery on Sam’s part though he’ll still seem 2nd rate, IMO. At this point the ball is in Sookie’s court…
Sam has tries wit Sookie but not very hard; hes not presistant either. Sookie seems to value him more as a friend anyway. book 6 when sookie tries to fantasize (durin the photo shoot) she strays away from Sam cuz hes her boss. She uses “hes my boss” as an excuse often; I recall her thinkin that when she expects his date.
T.Rece, I definitely agree with you about Eric and Bill being complete opposites and that Eric has lots of qualities that make him a good potential life partner.
I’m also a little grossed out by the shifters, but for different reasons than you. I couldn’t handle Alcide or Calvin or any shifter that lives in a community. The thing at the packmaster contest for the Shreveport weres where Furnan’s prize was that girl…that was my “no way, I’m outta here,” moment for that group. And don’t even get me started on the things that go on out at Hotshot. I like that they are panthers and Calvin does seem to be a good/steady kind of guy, but that’s about the only redeeming qualities there.
But, as you say, Sookie should choose based on who she loves, not what they can or can’t give her.

I started not to do this because I really believe just from reading your post that you commented merely in an attempt to upset/annoy/get a reaction from others. But I’ve been up for about 18 hours and well I can always write this off as ‘it seemed like a good idea at the time’, lol. Sleep deprivation and alcohol are both very good excuses for bad decisions btw. So is PMS which I also have a touch of just to give you at little TMI.
Anyways, I have to say that I’m really not annoyed. Much more amused than annoyed. I absolutely loved how you began your post. “Note to all Eric lovers” very amusing and witty since I’m sure that just a cursory glance around this site will tell you that most of the active participants are definitely Eric lovers, lol.

Considering he’s been a main character in every book except for one, and a romantic interest in most of those books as well, I guess that makes him one helluva bump. A really, really big bump.

Obviously you also have some really strong feelings about these “book” characters or you wouldn’t have bothered posting to begin with. The only other reason I could think of for posting would be just because you like to put down what others enjoy in an attempt to amuse yourself for whatever reason, which is much lamer than discussing and caring about a character in a book if you ask me.
I just have to wonder if the author’s STRONG HINTS that it will be Bill include her seriously contemplating killing Bill in the last book. Yep, that definitely makes him a viable option for the HEA. The fact that she didn’t want anyone to know about that only makes me more certain of its truth. CH is a mystery writer, and as such I don’t see her willingly giving any type of STRONG HINTS about how she plans to end the series. I truly believe she likes to surprise her readers with various twists and turns and if she can say or do something to throw them off her trail then she will do so. Call me crazy, call me delusional, call me overly hopeful, but that’s just the way I see it.
As for other reasons why Bill will not be the one, the supposed clues you have seen all along, and the fact of Eric just being a distraction and not a suitable life partner… I could post miles and miles of words about why I definitely differ in opinion on that with you, but I’m not going to because it’s all already been well-documented on many other posts on this blog. The very talented sookieverseblog and so many of the other commenters (ones that are much more intelligent and articulate than I am) have went over and over all the reasons why Eric should be the HEA, so I’m not going to waste my time repeating it here. Anyways, thanks for the amusement, hope my response was what you were aiming for as well, perhaps we’ve made each other mutually happy today.

Like everybody else, I was a little disappointed in the “think.” But there are 2 things that are keeping me optimistic. 1) Authors almost never write the synopsis themselves, so we shouldn’t read too much into it. 2) I’m going back to the theory that Sookie will look for a way to break the BB (mainly thru Amelia based on the preview chapter). If she is still questioning her feelings, breaking it would seem a perfect solution to her. Then she could see that she does still love Eric, & not have to second guess her feelings anymore. She could then fully commit herself to their relationship, making all of us happy! They may have to reform the BB soon though for safety’s safe, or possibly be able to get away with just not letting anyone know it was broken. Eric wouldn’t leave her unprotected, & if FDC knew it was broken, it would certainly mean trouble.

I work night shift (usually 12 hours shifts starting at 7pm) so my sleeping habits are insane. The main reason I was up though was that I didn’t sleep the night before, but then I decided that I didn’t want to sleep all day cause I wanted to enjoy the day, so I just stayed up. I think I stayed up about 30 hours straight total, then I slept for about 19 hours once I finally did go to sleep. Like I said, insane hours lol.
OUCH! It looks that Bill Babes are still bleeding by the wound since Sookie has declared she loves Eric HAHHAHAHA!! Amazing how denial and spite drives people to act desperate… LOL

I have no problem with non-eric fans sharing their opinion. This is afterall, not just an Eric site. It just so happens that the majority of fans here (and I think in general) are. But don’t for a second think that you can just write non-sense and not back it up. None of what you said is fact or even remotely coherent with the books.
If CH chooses to go against EVERYTHING that she has written so far and have Eric fall the the wayside after 9 books of build up, so be it. But BILL! That is just laughable. LOL! You can’t be serious. May I ask what canon evidence you feel you have to believe Bill is “the one” or would even be a contender? And, Sam…I’ll give you that he could end up being “the one” but at this point that is not likely (given the fact that she has yet to show interest in him romantically).
I’m curious why you didn’t include Quinn…he’s FAR more likely to be in the running than rapist Bill? And where are these rampant “funny one liners?” Sure in the first 3 books…but a sense of humor is one of the qualities Sookie finds most endearing in Eric–one that Bill has absolutely none of–it is something Sookie and he share. Eric “gets” her, understands her own silly one liners–and that is a fact. Another fact is that Sookie has stayed with Eric (and still says she loves him) when she is not experiencing “great sex” or “a good time”.

In book 9 – I was expecting there to be a huge fight between Bill and Eric over Sookie because of the cover. If that happened I was expecting Sookie to pick Eric. Once again Harris is completely unpredictable!

That statement right there is just one of the reasons that I believe the HEA HAS to be Eric. Things may not have ended for Bill/Sookie in LDID, but that’s definitely where things started falling apart for them. It’s also where Eric began to start shining. In my humble opinion, CH has been laying the groundwork for an Eric/Sookie ending from LDID and that’s why I’ll be so upset if it ends any other way.

I completely agree with you here… I have no problem with differing opinions, but I like those opinions to be based in some sort of fact or evidence. Anyone whose read the entire series should see the writing on the wall (pun intended!). Bill had his day and is done, done, done. Get over it and move on. And if anyone can find me a legitimate piece of canon evidence that points to the contrary, I am all ears…
It seems from chapter 1 of DITF that is posted on CH’s website, that they may find a way to remove the BB. It’s possible the love she THINKS she feels becomes more than thinking after it’s gone, & maybe they just don’t want to give it away. I am hopeful Sook will end up with Eric and can’t wait for DiTF!! It seems like synopses are often wrong or just too vague to hold much value in my experience.

I’m not freaking out about the “thinks she loves him”. It’s a step in the right direction versus blaming all of her feelings on the blood bond. I think its setting her up for a situation/event to occur where she realizes she does, truly madly deeply love him. With 3 books remaining after this one, there’s still some ground to cover before the HEA.
I too think the angry fae is Claude. There has been much discussion about the fairy’s perchance for vengeance. Given the loss of his sister, and Sookie’s role in her life, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he pointed a finger in her direction and came after her.
I really hope Alcide doesn’t drag her into another pack problem. I think he fully intends on Sookie as much as he possibly can because he knows she is always willing to help, no matter how he tricks her into it. I really wish she would stop doing him favors.

Physically I was most attracted to Alcide. Brown shaggy hair and GREEN eyes, no genie pants, hoop earrings, tassle belts, dockers from dillards. Nope, he seemed like a man’s man and he was responsible. Plus, I liked his family-Janice and he seemed capable of providing for any gf or wife. Looking back I actually liked him quite a bit.
Since then he’s made some less than stellar moves, i.e. Debbie Pelt, packmaster shit. But all in all he’s loyal and committed. He’s also man enough to want Sookie to be happy, even if that means being with someone else:Eric. Therefore I respect him more than I do Quinn, in that sense. Alcide seems like the strong but silent type (and I personally prefer that) as oppossed to the impression I got from Quinn’s outburst in Bk 9…he seems like a hot head.
I still like Alcide–in fact, you can have Quinn, I’ll take Alcide, Bill can go F himself and who does that leave…oh yea Eric for Sookie.hehe Really though Alcide was another example of bad timing and unfortunate circumstance. He’s no more than a “coulda woulda shoulda” at this point.
I didnt like Alcide at first impression cuz at the moment he shows up at Sookie he is very bold. He kinda acts like he owns the place; he came off as a lil bossy too. I softened up towards him when they were in Jackson bc he actually seemed to be a decent guy. I excused his behavior at the club during the full moon. He was a sweetheart when he dropped Sookie suitcase off but he wasnt gonna ring the bell jus scram. But after Alcide shows his true colors and I agree wit Eric “hes a scrum”
I actually didnt like Quinn either first impression. Actually i didnt think Sookie should have accepted a date from him let alone bring him to her house. When she was talkin to him in her kitch he didnt seem like dating material. But i soften to him as well and really like him.
I can’t really say one way or the other my inital feeling on Alcide. I don’t remember thinking he came off as bossy or out of line…but honestly I don’t think I paid him much attention. It also helps when you find the man attractive, which I did. On the other hand with Quinn I was immeadiately turned off. He’s just not my type at all and by then I knew he would eventually throw a wrench in Sookie-Eric. Once I stopped reading his attire and “Babes” I liked him enough. For me he was always a distraction but I can see where a non-vamper like yourself would grow to like him alot. What can I say…even with that fabulous 8 pack that Taylor Laugtnor sports I loyal to my sparkly vamp.

I liked Alcide when I read the series the FIRST time…now, in my…erm…twenty-something read through I see him differently. Who walks into someone’s house upon a first meeting, is offered coffee and asks for sausage and eggs???? He is really assuming…and it continues and becomes exponentially worse as the story continues: the issues with involving her in Pack politics while never fully disclosing the import or rationale for her attendance at events. Patronizing, really.

I wouldn’t mind being wit a vampire either. Based on the facts of the story so far – I love Eric. This may sound crazy but while reading the series I’d dream about Eric. Thinkin about the books all the time didnt help either. Every time my doorbell rang I thought it was Eric LOL. It took a few seconds to realize Eric isn’t real. LOL – for news years (2010) I was super wasted and I was going around lookin for Edward. haha im nuts.

I actually stopped into to the Amazon site yesterday, to see if I could preorder the book, and took a look at the discussion board there. Most of the posters seemed to be pro-Eric but the BL’s (and their ridiculous arguments) made me so nauseous that I had to log off. I have no patience. I have never heard a single BL come at me with a solid, viable, factually based argument. All I hear is “they’re are star-crossed lovers”. Please. Give me a freaking break. Sorry, but I have no patience for BL’s.
I’ve asked Bill Lover’s for a good argument and they come up short with – I stopped reading after the third book or – I have faith in Alan Ball, the TV show is better or – Sookie is a slut!

Lol, yeah, when I made my foray into the pro-Bill sites here a while back trying to find the answer to the question of just how the heck can anybody like Bill, a common theme I found was that they had not read past the first three books, which I do think will severely hinder one’s ability to accurately discuss a book series that spans 9 books now. It was kinda funny. I mean, I’m not saying that I wouldn’t stop reading if things turned on Eric in a way that I couldn’t come to terms with (cause I probably would) but when I give up on the book series and stop reading them, then I think that probably also means I should not be putting in my two cents as to how I think the series will end up.
I also just want to throw this in here so I don’t have to make another post. I’m really thankful that we have all the wonderful commenters here that we do. I was upset about that blurb in the synopsis but ya’ll have totally helped restore my faith, lol. TY!

Hey that gives me an idea – Sookie is suposed to be a null (immuned to magic). Would that mean she threw her values out the window and give in to Preston on her own will (not spell influence).
We all know when Sookie sees a hot naked Were she cant control herself, which is why i orginally thought Preston onli need a hint of magic. Or many shes just not immune to fairy magic (book 9 fairy magic worked on her)
Interesting you’ve raised the magical null thing Tracey. This is something that struck me back when ATOD came out and I first read “Lucky” (the short where Amelia first mentions what a magical null is).
At first I thought that what happened with Preston shot a hole in this theory, because she was put under a spell. But then I did some wider reading and discovered that traditionally, there are certain types of fae who can only be put under a spell by other fae. And Preston was fae.
So I think it does still hold up.

I don’t think Sookie is a null. She may be resistant, but there is no evidence that she is unaffected. To the contrary, she is unable to even walk into Hair of the Dog until Quinn picks her up because of the anti-human stay away spell. She is reluctant about approaching Josephine’s, she says that if she didn’t know she COULD keep walking toward Hallow’s hideout, she would have turned away…
She is obviously affected by magic, but I am sure some magic is stronger than others.
Ah, she may be affected but it is not “effective” on her. As in, she notices it, but it doesn’t stop her from ultimately getting past it. She is not rendered powerless by it.
She can’t be glamoured and I don’t think that has anything to do with her telepathy.

Holly makes a point of mentioning Sookies resistances. Sookie knows when magic is in the air and i think, depending of the magic/spell, it scares her. Example would be the “keep away spell” in book 4, she kind of got a sinking feeling and she preferred to be far from that destination. Sookie rather be safe than sorry. True, Sookie had trouble at hair of dogs but again it wasn’t impossible for her to be at that location as I think it may have for a human. Once inside she was at ease (regarding to spell scenario), I cant think the same would apply for a human.

I’m going with the fact that the series is going to play out like Gone with the Wind. Where Eric will just give up at the end and Sookie will be like “WAIT!” There have been many hints and parrallels throughout the series.
This is a distinct possibility.
You know, Kealeagh, that is an interesting thought. You’re right…she has mentioned GWTW in Club Dead, DTTW, and FDTW at the very least…maybe there have been more references that I can’t think of right now…veeerrrrry interrrresting.
Obviously CH makes a lot of references about Gone with the Wind, though her once answered in her forum it isn’t intended to create the idea that the story have the same course. She said something like the main characters have similar characteristics to GwtW’s characters because they are models quite common in literature. But who knows? I’ve thought the same thing you’re saying a thousand times…
Well I hope not entirely like Gone With The Wind because doesn’t Scarlett end up alone? I like the concept though but I hope it’s a combination of that and Pride and Prejudice where she does lose him but gets him back in the end.
I find a lot of similarities between Eric and Rhett & Darcy…Sookie with Scarlett & Elizabeth. I find Bill to be much like Ashley from GWTW and Quinn to be like Wickham. Obviously not identical but I definitely see the possibility of a combination.

If it ends at book 13 — then he was persistent for 13 books, essentially, to us, 13 years. That’s a long fucking time. Rhett was hanging around Scarlett for just as long. It becomes too much and he has other things to do. I can see Eric going, “Alright, I’m done.” And then just walk away and Sookie’s like, “wait, I’ll never see Eric again? That’s it?” and then she’ll freak out. She’s fine with never seeing Bill again, or Alcide, or Quinn, but I think she would lose her mind at never seeing Eric again — she’s never even considered it (even when looking at their future).
Honestly, if Sooks keeps up her avoidance attitude from the last 2-3 books, I will be Team Eric all the way. I couldn’t put up with all that nonsense!
Maybe it’s because Eric has been the only true constant in her life over the last few years? We know Bill’s not constant (or honest), Quinn drops off the map for months at a time, and Jason is freaking useless… So, she is so used to Eric always being there that she never truly is able to imagine life without him showing up at the perfect times. She is almost taking advantage at this point and not giving him the due he deserves for always being there for her. (I guess one could argue Sam is a constant as well, but I cannot even go there…)
Maybe he gets fed up and disappears for a while and that’s what it takes for Sookie to realize she really loves and needs him? Or he’s kidnapped by Appius and Sookie has to find him and she is able to realize how important he is to her life??
Ok I am grasping for E/S HEA straws here, but god, I can only hope…
Eric’s been around so long what’s another 13 years? He might be around another 1,000 years + and never find anyone like Sookie; noone remotely interesting or surprising as Sookie. If Eric givens up I’ll be disappointed because that’s not his personality/character unless he really knows for certain its useless/ out of his control.
I don’t know if Eric will ever truly give up or stop loving her. But I can see the logic in him “leaving” Sookie. Much like Rhett, Eric may realize that Sookie still has some growing up to do. Rhett also knew that Scarlett loved him…he knew that she would realize it…and he left bc he didn’t want to be there when she did (he wouldn’t have been able to turn her down). Bon Temps-Sookie is much like the plantation Tara-Scarlett. In the end Scarlett returns to Tara- w/ every intention to get Rhett back-”tomorrow is another day.” In the sequel, she succeeds. Part of me feels like Bk 10 could show similarity to the ending of GWTW. But even if Eric gets fed up with her nonsense and leaves he’d wait patiently for her to return on her own wishes. I don’t know if he’d continue to pursue her though. Both Rhett and Eric are confident that Scar/Sook love them, so at this point Eric might decide to employ a new strategy–afterall, absence makes the heart grow fonder.

The only way I see book 10 going the way of GWTW would be if Sookie resists his affection and won’t admit her feelings. And, if she is all caught up in tending to Bill. As of right now it seems like they are progressing (and they are happy)but like you’ve said before theres no telling with CH.
BTW…I think if anyone, Sookie is playing games with herself. All this back and forth with the BB or the pledge, feelings for Eric, Quinn, Bill. I mean, if you’re gonna trust Eric in vamp business and not question anything before its too late, then f-ing trust him and get over it. He might be ruthless but she’s down right reckless half the time. She’s just all over the place. It drives me nuts! I don’t blame Amelia for speaking up when she did. But its even worse being inside her head (like we all are)! Figure it out sister! That’s what I want to say.
I had to laugh when I saw that M.Shar posted here. She definitely came here to provoke. I’ve seen her on Amazon when I’ve looked at forums…she’s like in every SVM discussion spewing her Bill love and attacking anyone who mentions Eric as the HEA. An EL went off on her when one day and it brought a smile to my face.:)

Big Eric lover here. However, I wonder why there’s still such animosity between eric and bill lovers. From the comments that CH has made multiple times I get the impression she doesn’t think vampires are good enough for sookie. (I think she’ll probably end up with Sam, which is okay, but Sam just doesn’t “float my boat”) I’m still just crossing my fingers for eric to find someone to love and “settle down with” by the end of the series. I love the sookie/eric relationship (and I do think that eric loves her), but I don’t think the author sees eric (or bill)as a long term option for sookie. Not trying to be a downer, but it seems useless to argue with Bill lovers when it seems that neither suitor has a chance with sookie in the long run.
What can Sam offer Sookie?

Dirtiness?
Self-loathing?
Isolation?

Actually, there are ways to make it work out in the long term with a vampire (and not necessarily by making the human partner into a vampire or turning the vampire into a human). However, my feeling is that CH is not going to make this happen. Also, Sam’s not a bad guy. I’m just not interested in reading about him (or Quinn,or Alcide,etc) romantically involved with sookie.

Totally…so you’re a vamp girl like me?lol No shame in that. And since I can’t stand Bill, I’m basically not interested in reading about anyone but her and Eric.
Not particularly a vamp girl. I read alot of urban fantasy/paranormal romance and I like all kinds of characters (vamps, shapeshifters, psychics, fairies, etc). I just prefer eric and the vamp characters overall in the sookie stories (particularly the fangtasia crew).
Okay, but we all need to remember that CH’s prime example for the Vamp community was the homosexual minority… CH seems to want to show us that, even though humans and vamps are so different, the differences can be bridged and managed with an open enough mindset. Wouldn’t it be counter productive for her to, at the end of the series, proposition that humans and vamps cannot have long term relationships because of those differences? Even though 9 books have shown the problems with prejudice and making decisions based on difference or fear of those differences?? Wouldn’t it be like saying that two different people from different races shouldn’t date because their differences were insurmountable? CH is nothing if not open-minded and a proponent for minorities…
Also, does anyone read the Harper Connelly series? I read an article the other day about the newest book (I’ve never read these, so please correct me if I’m wrong), and the whole point of the article was about Harper falling in love and having a relationship with her step-brother. The author of the article pointed out that many people wouldn’t understand why CH would want to write a relationship that complicated and full of thorns and would revolt against that type of coupling. CH replied that writing damaged characters was interesting, and the author conceded that even though she was going against the grain, it worked in the series. Maybe CH will allow us a Sookie/Eric HEA precisely because it is messy and complicated and sometimes weird? That is, after all, pretty true to real life…
Kristen, you completely took the words right out of my mouth! One of the themes of the books is tolerance and acceptance. The Vampires are struggling to fit in as the new “minority”. They are integrating themselves into mainstream society and have businesses, vampire reality shows, and even legal human/vamp marriages in some (all?) states. Sookie is very sensitive to all Supe struggles to be treated as equals. I think she would be appalled by CH’s statements, no? This is why I try not to read any interviews by CH because she seems to contradict her own themes in her own books! I guess she’s just trying to throw us off the trail but these comments are a bit disconcerting! She should stick to factual details like explaining the technical issues of blood bonds, etc. She should steer clear of this other stuff in interviews, in my opinion. Maybe I’m just crazy.
I agree. Actually when I was responding to a different post I realized that I’d always seen the fact that Sookie trusted Eric in LDID (even when he thought it was crazy) as significant. I feel like in doing so she “willed” or “compelled” him to be trustworthy, or rather worthy of her trust. It reminded me of the theme of “Freedom Writers” and “Dangerous Minds” which are both very much revolving around tolerance and more importantly “learned helplessness.” In the movies I mentioned the LH is seen in the students–their current outlook is predicated on society’s low-regard for minorities (ie. crime, stupid,etc.) They “learn” to emulate that stereotype and thus perpetuate the image. It seems this is much like the stereotype of “vampire”. Furthermore, they have accepted that fate and more or less adapted a similar “helplessness”. In all of these cases, it takes only ONE person–to go against the grain, show tolerance, and BELIEVE IN THEM–to make a positive difference. Sookie seems to serve that role perfectly.
With that in mind, it occured to me that the concept of “trust” plays a huge part in the series. More than anything, it seems her grief revoles around that trust being betrayed. So, I feel like Sookie has been exibiting the typical signs of dealing with grief (denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance). From the moment Bill walks into her life she has followed this pattern(mostly again dealing w/ trust). She makes her way around the cycle but never makes it to acceptance. At the end of D&G she really comes face to face with this reality. It is stressed that completing all 5 steps are needed to heal. I’m hoping that book 10 takes that route…form the first chapter it seems likely. What do you think?
I see where you’re coming from, but I have to keep two things in mind when I question this.
1. Sookie has LOVED only two people–both vampire.
2. CH/Sookie look at the individual and don’t hold any character to their Supe Stereotype. It is actually an important theme throughout…people labeling based on their affiliation (ex. Werewolves vs weres, or Vampire = untrustworthy). She continually goes against the grain, with open-mindedness.
Given these two things Sookie/CH has drawn a huge comparison between Eric and Bill. They are both vampire but still complete opposites. Therefore the animosity is over Eric and Bill’s character.
I don’t understand the obsession with the blood bond. A blood bond, from what CH has written, does not create emotions. It simply lets the two bonded people feel each other’s emotions. Since Sookie’s telepathy doesn’t work (reliably) with Eric, it gives them both a little advantage. We’ve seen how the bond has cheered Sookie up, and how it has affected Eric. Eric told Sookie that she would come to like it. He doesn’t lie. I think they should forget about trying to break it, especially since it would require distance between them. Sookie tends to blame things on something other than herself, and blaming the blood bond for her feelings is a cop-out.
I think that the brou-ha over the BB from certain camps is not so much that it is causing Sookie to feel things for Eric that she wouldn’t otherwise (though I have heard that crazy argument repeatedly). What’s getting panties in a twist mostly is that there is room to argue that Sookie’s feelings aren’t her own. That this love she is feeling is actually all (or maybe in part) Eric’s feelings for her. And that Sookie has no means of telling the difference. That seems to be the crux of the argument against it, as I have kind of deduced from trying to follow some really twisted and weird logic on various sites!
I agree with you Pogonip that the BB affords both of them an opportunity for true intimacy with another that their respective states of being (vampire and mind reader) would normally exclude them from. And I think that was the original intention behind introducing it in the first place
I think Sookie has plenty of opportunities to decide whether her feelings for Eric are real or the BB when Eric is asleep for the day. How could she be feeling his feelings if he is unconscious? Anything she’s left with would be her emotions, if she would stop to analyze them.

Maybe it’s because I have the least to lose, but I have incredible confidence that this HEA will work out to the satisfaction of 99.9% of the regulars here. Maybe not this year in this book. And y’all know I root for the same outcome. Its unexplained confidence that I don’t have about most outcomes, but when I do get this confidence, I am usually right.

I get the feeling that HEA isn’t really CH’s MO.
The standard in the Sookieverse seems to be that life is difficult and the characters rise to the occasion.
Jason and Crystal’s failed marriage, Niall’s failed attempt at family togetherness, Bill and Selah, Alcide and Debbie, Alcide and Maria-Star, Pam and Amelia… It just doesn’t seem like it’s CH’s style to go with a HEA after all that.
I think that by the end of book 13, Sookie’s ability to stand on her own and be at peace with herself would be the big payoff, in terms of HEA.
If she ends up with Eric, Sam, or even scrapes the bottom of the barrel and goes with Bill, IMHO her chosen partner would be secondary to her own character development.
Whatever happens, I hope she doesn’t break Eric’s heart, but CH does not like to go easy on her characters.
In that case, I much prefer the GWTW angle, where it’s Eric who walks away, if they can’t live HEA.
I agree on the GWTW angle. Also, I would HATE to see Sookie break-up with Eric. She’s already dumped all the other guys — I’d rather see her get dumped for once.

I actually care a great deal for Sookie. I was only saying that watching her break-up with Eric would be painful for me and it would be an interesting dynamic for her to experience the first time she’d been dumped. Either way, I just want Sookie to choose a happy ending for HER. I hope Charlaine can make it an understandable ending for a long, beloved series.

I agree – I really don’t want to see Sookie “dump” Eric after everything that’s happened.
For me personally, in terms of character development, it wouldn’t make sense for Sookie to end up “alone”. We already know that Sookie is independent and can stand on her own two feet. The only way that ending would make sense to me would be if Sookie had been a fragile, dependent woman throughout the entire book series. Then her ending up empowered and at peace with herself would make sense. She’s already empowered. The area I feel she is most weak in is in emotional maturity and her fear of intimacy. If she stayed alone I would feel as if she remained emotionally stunted with fear of intimacy, and never being able to work at a relationship. Right now all we see is Sookie running. Even Eric points this out to her in CD: “Had it occurred to to you that you tend to walk away when things between you and Bill become rocky? Not that I mind, necessarily, since I would be glad for you two to sever your association. But if this is the pattern you follow in your romantic attachments, I want to know now.”

It’s interesting to me that Claude was not involved in the Fae war. At least it doesn’t seem like he was. I wonder where he was when all of that was going on. It’s also interesting that he decided to stay here instead of going back to Fae. Claudine certainly would have returned since she was pregnant.
When Sookie asked Claudine where Claude was, she stated that he was with Niall, fighting Breandan’s forces.

Sorry to double post but on another note, someone in another blog (forget where I saw it) mentioned something interesting about the Bellefleurs. Since in the first synopsis it stated that Bill could only be healed by a blood sibling, that would mean that the Bellefluers are going to find out they are related to Bill. I’m guessing Sookie will tell Andy. I’m curious to see how that goes down and how they all react to being related to a vampire.

Also, at the end of DAG while Clancy was feeding Bill he told Sookie that Bill would need “more and more blood to drive it out” (the silver). So bc Clancy was the one feeding him, I assumed he needed vampire, rather than human blood.
Ah, very true! For some reason I thought it was something magical – like needing blood from the “source” and combining it with Vampire blood. That’s why the relative idea kind of seemed plausible. It makes much more sense coming from a vampire sibling than a human relative. *slaps forehead* lol
This of course means that Miss Sookie will be in danger once again! Unless Bill’s “brother/sister” understands that Lorena was killed in order to save Bill’s life. Not that they may care about that.
On another note, I wonder if Eric’s brother will prefer men (like Appius) or if he is being “forced” like Eric. Or if he will make a pass at Sookie. lol.

Sookie’s safety may be at risk for reasons other than vengeance…who’s to say that Bill’s sibling, having had Lorena as a maker and teacher, isn’t an aggressive vamp…living next door to a lovely, buxom blonde with fairy blood!!! Oh, the possibilities for Sookie’s next near-death experience(s) are just endless…more Were stuff, the portal that appears to exist in the woods next to her house (remember in DUD, when Sookie asked why Gran would leave the house solely to her, Bill said, “Maybe you’ll find out later.”), a new vampire neighbor and Eric’s sire and sibling…and we already know how Appius feels about coercing others. I am vibrating with excitement…oh, wait, that’s what happens when I get my Sunday Skars!
This always has been my concern about the needed “sibling”, too, especially when Sookie was the one who killed Lorena.

Going back to the original synopsis, I am wondering about these things:
1) Niall owns A LOT. He has ownership in banks, research and pharmaceuticals…who gets those ownerships once he is no longer able to access our world and that money is essentially useless to him? If, as he has stated, he considers Sookie his “only living relative,” won’t she be in line to get it all? And who will that piss off???
2) At their first meeting, Sookie asks if Finton had any other children (since he did impregnate other human women) and Niall said they would talk about it later, which seemed to imply that there WERE other relatives. Hostilities might come from other decendents of Finton who take issue with Sookie being the only one recognized???

These are good questions Holby. I honestly didn’t even consider these things. If I’m not mistaken though, Faery has been sealed forever and I don’t think we’ll ever hear from Niall again. I thought I read that somewhere but I could be wrong. Has anyone else heard this?
VL, I believe that is correct. I am thinking of something along the lines of the Hadley inheritance. Some crazy lawyer shows up with a wad o’ cash or stock in companies that add up to a ton o’ cash and then the disgruntled other relatives, part fae, start showing up. Or the letter that comes with the lawyer includes the other family…or, more like Sookie…nothing is said about the other family until they start trying to kill her!
I asked the same to myself when he said goodbye to Sookie, but I guess he must has made some kind of arragements for it before he sealed the portal, because Claude also decided to stay at the human side…
maybe CLaude stayed at Naill’s request.
I think Jason will be pretty pissed. As for other family members – it may not be claude or Dermot after all mad wit Sookie. Perhapps Sookie will find other alive members of her family line in this book.
