More Season 4 Casting News

New casting calls as of this morning – of most interest the casting of Portia Bellefleur, Claude and Earl (Sookie’s grandfather and Gran’s husband – according to Bill’s geneaology project).
I’m literally running out the door right now, will be back with some thoughts later.

I’m not too excited about all the casting that seems to revolve around fairyland – or Jason’s story line. Urgh… I was hoping we could escape that Hot(shot) mess is season 4.

The doucheland people will probably be in the season premiere. I’m guessing Sookie’s fae-mily will be having a meet and greet. I’m quite excited about the casting call for Claude. Please AB, find us an underwear model to drool over.
There are a lot of clues here about storylines. Who is having a deck built? How about Sookie? Will the kitchen fire happen?
Luna, Suzanne and Emory will probably be part of Sam’s storyline. I read a teaser from ST about Sam’s shapeshifting storyline for S4.
Queen Mab sounds like the big bad who turns Marnie into Hallow.
Queen Mab is a Shakespearean Fairy Queen! I wonder who she’s mad at and what plans of hers were thwarted? Could it be she’s pissed at Bill for what he’s done to Sookie?

Was thinking we would see a call for Niall in this batch…but not yet. I’m pretty sure they are going to bring him in at some point.
WFS – I also caught the deck thing. Being that Alcide runs a construction company, I’m betting that he’s the “foreman” he doesn’t want to piss off…wouldn’t it be nice if Eric has Alcide’s crew fixing up Sookie’s house.
I’d given up hope on that… but since it was left a mess through the whole of last season it still needs to be done
It will be interesting if Niall and Queen Mab are eventually pitted against each other. I definitely see AB doing the fae-war at some point and I see a strong setup for that happening this season. Looks like Queen Mab is seen everywhere from Shakespeare to Shelley to J M Barrie…Interesting that AB has created this character from what seems like a recurring character in literature.
Just did some quick googling and found this from Professor Wiki:
Queen Mab is a fairy referred to in Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet. She also appears in other 17th century literature, and in various guises in later poetry, drama and cinema. In the play her activity is described in a famous speech by Mercutio written in iambic pentameter, in which she is described as a miniature creature who drives her chariot into the noses and into the brains of sleeping people to compel them to experience dreams of wish-fulfillment. She would also bring the plague in some occasions. She is also described as a midwife to help sleepers ‘give birth’ to their dreams.
In view of the heavy role that dreams have played on this show, I found the bolded part intriguing.
Oh it is no co-incidence. I can bet my last dollar that AB’s radar would have picked up on that aspect of the Queen Mab character.

Sookie’s dream wish-fulfillment – that there is a happy world different from this oh so terrible world with its oh so terrible vampires. Of ocurs eher own corny imagination includes dancing hippie fairies…
Now how does RE’s finger pointing at Bill’s forehead (third eye?) and his subsequent dream feature into all of this?
I TOTALLY agree. But I also think it could be significant that Queen Mab was introduced in a speech by Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet, as if to mock the “grand love affair” as inconsequential and the product of mere whimsy.
So the question is: Which plans of Mab’s were thwarted? This could go one of several ways, but I think there’s a good chance that the Queen might be a little villain-y.

My brain is overloaded. Too many new people for a 12 episode season. *frets*
But these are all very peripheral characters. IDK, I think we may see lots of new folks to fill in some of these new storylines but I believe we’ll not see a too-large cast.
Those that are worried about too many character, a lot of these people will literally probably be in one or two episodes. So it looks like a lot more than it actually is.
Its almost impossible to take all this info in.
But most of the characters are pretty minor and have only a few lines.
The real stand out to me is Queen Mab – looks like this character has surfaced in many a literature as some kind of kick-ass Fairy Queen. So I am definitely intrigued by this one. God knows the Fae world needed something more than wispy fairy wings…!!!
Luna Garza to me looks like a possible love-interest for Sam maybe?
Daisy/Naomi/Suzanne all seem like side characters and not ones I am interested in at the moment.
Interesting that there is no mention of the Weres? No packmaster stuff for Alcide this season?
Yay for Claude – but I dont seem him as appearing in more than 3-4 episodes. But thats OK I guess. God knows we have an overloaded cast already!
Portia – TB Portia seems to be different from SVM Portia….not sure how I feel about this yet…
Yeah I think Luna Garza is for Sam too, she’s a character from LDID, right? Its interesting that they picked her name out and brought her in now. Didn’t Sookie suggest she should introduce her to Sam too? I can’t remember.

I believe this casting call was only indicating the lines for episode’s 1 and 2, so their roles on the show could be a bit more.
Looks like next season is going to focus on the witches and shifters….alot to think about.

I actually liked the character of Luna Garza and I’m happy they decided to pick her up… Not sure about how I feel about the others.

I think what most excited me was Luna Garza. I didnt think they would take anything else from Book 2-so yay! Maybe instead of werewolf witches they are shape shifting witches? But the description of Su Mckittric is confusing because her informal party sounds like the shapeshifting meeting, but if its in Texas it could relate to telepathy-(share her ability) ala Barry?

This got me excited to think they might follow something similar from Book 4 re Matt stonebrook but in the books its Mark so that dashed my hopes. But yeah, the fairy casting does not look good in regards to Queen Mab.
I too am excited to see Claude on the show!! Queen Mab most interests me also. This is going to be a cool season. I just hope they tone down the sub-plots a bit but judging by the casting calls, it looks like Hot Shot will be somewhat prominent!
Unfortunately Hot Shot is not going anywhere
It was one of the fails of S3, but unfortunately they cannot just drop that storyline – horrendous as it may be. My only hope is that it get little screen-time. A tiny flicker of hope that is most likely going to get squashed during S4E1…
I think that everyone would forgive the dangling plot if Alan Ball dropped the Hotshot story and barely mentioned it again. The greater travesty will be seeing valuable season 4 minutes wasted on that mess!
The two hotshot related character here are bit parts so im not worried about hot shot yet.
Everyone dont freak out yet, most of these people are only very small parts, none of them are regulars except Luna. The two hotshot kids only have a couple of lines.
What I hope for Hotshot, is that somehow they manage to tie this storyline with the others… at least with Sam’s.
I actually think the Hotshot storyline could be interesting now that Jason has the purpose of looking after them. The problem with Jason’s storyline in Season 3 is that it never had any clear direction – it just had him wandering from Hotshot to his police job to arguing with Kitch Maynard, the latter two storylines which could have been dropped.
I’m hoping we get to see greater depth in the Hotshot locals as opposed to the Southern caricatures we saw last season.
I agree. I’m looking forward to seeing what Jason does with HS or conversely what Hotshot does to Jason.
A shapeshifter orgy was my first thought as well–perhaps Eric in spandex even yet? Sadly, they’ll probably put Sam in Spandex, and making out with Sookie who’s looking for Jason. However, the visual of shapeshifters/ animals/nude people all writhing around is pretty amusing to me. Hotshot casting doesn’t surprise me since it is a big part of Book 4. I’m presuming they are anticipating the fairy war with the introduction of Queen Mab. Cage fighting–Tommy. Does Tommy eventually lead to Quinn? Boy did I hope that whole storyline would get dropped!!!!
Very glad to see Luna, I liked her. Glad to see Portia as well. OK–if Portia sleeps with Bill, then Bill discovers that she’s a ggg granddaughter, does that qualify as incest? “Just another sexual topic covered by True Blood.” Whose deck–Is Eric fixing up the house for Sookie (I can only dream). I am hoping that most of these are small parts for single events. TB has way too many regulars already. Cuts into Eric time.
After reading this, I’m just praying for a good AE and Sookie story.
I would be excited about Claude if the faeries were living among the humans. Since they’re not, I couldn’t care less. Claudine is a disappointment, so whatever will they do with Claude? Doucheland is a ff for me. I don’t care about eye candy. I just want a good story and I’m underwhelmed and a bit depressed at the descriptions of these characters cause it sounds like more filler stories that I just won’t care about.

Portia in the book is Bill’s great-great-great-daughter. AB did mention that Andy will get big shock whom he’s related to and I have feeling it’s Bill.
Damn I was hoping Hot Shot would be long gone. (Hoped but knew that it wouldn’t be eliminated). Also hate the idea that the cast is getting even bigger. However it will be great to have Portia and Claude in the mix.
Good grief! So much for hoping they pare down the cast. I hardly know where to begin. Queen Mab sounds interesting. Of course, anything with the word “Queen” in front of it usually does.
At least these are all signs that filming will begin soon.
I’m with Viking Dame I guess everyone else will get about 15 seconds of screen time. June it is a month that is not even remotely close (although the weather in the NYC area indicates otherwise)

Being only one episode, and with the lines up there maybe we could be getting a glimpse at the deaths of Sookie’s parents?? Claudine’s mention of their deaths not being an accident will no doubt be revisted at some point.

hmm..heroically sacrifices himself to save a loved one, so if it is a flashback of Sookie’s parents death that would mean that Earl died around the same time too.

I think you’re right, Earl could introduce the truth about mum and dad’s death… But who is the beloved one Earl saves?
I wonder if the casual viewer even remembers the circumstances around the deaths of Sookie’s parents. If I had not just read the books right before that episode aired, when Claudine mentions it to Sookie it would have made no sense to me.
He could have sacrificed himself to try and save Sookie’s parents and just not have succeeded but I kind of doubt it. I would think it would have to be Sookie,Jason or Gran.
I’m glad the fae extras don’t seem to be reoccurring roles at least. Luna and Queen Mab and Portia are the one’s I’m looking forward to seeing. I don’t expect much from Claude with the Claudine casting.
Well as much as I am pleased to see a casting call for Claude, I have to say that while he should be eye-candy in the sense that Book Claude is I hope to goodness that they get someone who can ACT as well as flex his muscles without his shirt on. Sorry Alcide/JM fans, but he was a real disappointment for me, both in the way he was written and portrayed, and I don’t want to have to sit through another cardboard-cutout muscleman again tyvm. Eye-candy is no fun for me unless they come with an interesting storyline and something to stimulate my brain (hence my lust for the delicious Mr Northman…).
I also have to admit that my heart sank at the thought of more Fae-F*ckery. Sorry AB, but its just not grabbing me and we DO NOT need another repeat of the seemingly endless Marianne debacle. I know that the Fae play a large part in the later books, but I don’t want endless and seemingly pointless Doucheland scenes going on when I’d much rather be watching the events of AE and possibly Rhodes. All I can think with Queen Mab is that she is going to replace Niall’s brother (whose name escapes me right now) as the opposing Fae faction.

The introduction of Luna Garza made me sit up and take notice, but it has me a little confused as she didn’t appear until Rhodes, and while speeding things up would be sensible in relation to the number of books and the lifespan of the show I cannot help but think that trying to fit AE and the summit/Rhodes incidents into 12 episodes as well as all the Hotshot/Fae/pointless storylines to keep other cast members busy is just too, too much and it may not be possible to do justice to ANY of the storylines. If TB was 24 or even 18 episodes a season then yeah, maybe, but 12 episodes isn’t very long at all.
Kitsunegari, I was also thinking that Queen Mab would take the place of Breandan. I don’t know how much the fae will play into S4, but I’m guessing that storyline will involve Sookie, Jason, Eric, Pam and Bill. So it sounds like three main storylines: fae, witches and shapeshifters (I’m ignoring Hotshot). I think these stories will overlap.
My bad(I shouldn’t post when tired) – Luna Garza was part of the FOTS storyline in the books and we’ve already had that in S2, NOT the Rhodes Summit incident. *Boinks self up the side of the head*

I’m hearing this around the place, she could be connected to him in some way…it certainly looks like they are working towards him with all this cage fighting etc amongst the shifters.
I want to see Quinn on the show, but not yet.
They really need to work out what they’re doing with Alcide first. He is hovering on the fringes with Sookie and I don’t think it’s a good idea (for Sookie’s character and how the viewer feels about her) to bring Quinn around too soon.
My gut feeling is that we won’t see him until S5, though the groundwork will probably be laid in S4.
Well AB has done a pretty thorough job of eliminating Bill and Sam from the legitimate Sookie suitor competition, but it took him 3 seasons to get there. Alicide has only been around for 1 season so I figure AB will throw in some A/S tension for S4 and S5 before he gets completely eliminated, too. I don’t think Quinn will be seen until S5 at the earliest. Even then he’ll probably just add some bit of sexual tension. I can’t imagine Quinn would really play the part of suitor until S6, though.
With the S3 dog fighting and the S4 Alcide story Quinn could get introduced in any number of ways. I don’t think the AB’s Quinn storyline is going to have much in common with the CH’s Quinn when we finally see him, though. I do however, think that AB won’t be able to resist bringing him in at some point if the show lasts that long.

Could the Portia character be being introduced to date Bill. In Book 2 she is not hot at all, quite the opposite, but fake dates Bill for reasons which I can’t remembers. On the one had this would be good – freeing her up to spend time with someone else, but of course in LDID it just has the effect of making her jealous and getting them back together again!!
Bathsheba, in the books Portia was dating Bill so she could appear to be edgy and sexually open minded to get an invite to the sex parties that were going on in order to get information that would remove suspicion from her brother Andy following Lafayette’s corpse being discovered in his car. However, as this took place while the maenad was doing her stuff and that has been covered already in TB S2 I wonder if they are going to use Portia in the place of Selah Pumphrey. It could get quite icky if AB follows the books, but then again AB hasn’t ever shied away from anything icky in his other series so whether she ends up dating Bill and just how far it’ll go between them is anyones guess.
You beat me to it. I very much think that Portia is going to replace Selah. That will give Andy a nice storyline too, he has to come to terms with his sister dating a vamp.

There sure is a lot to pour over. The shifter community seems to be expanding by leaps and bounds. I’m not fond of the Quinn storyline and would be just as happy to see it dropped. But I think I’m in the minority there.
Love the idea of a new queen. Wonder who she’s going to be mad at?

You’re not alone Bobsgran. I have no desire to see Quinn appear in True Blood. I thought he was boring in the books, a total snooze fest. If they do it right, Alcide could easily take on that role.
I agree! Not a Quinn fan, at all. That’s one storyline I’d be happy to see eliminated.
I wish I could get excited about Claude being cast, but as badly as I feel they missed the mark on Claudine, I’m not going to hold my breath!

Though I don’t think we’ve seen the half of what Claudine is capable of, she has thusfar proven to be a pretty lame imitation of her book counterpart.
I will reserve judgement on Claude. Even in the books he was essentially eye candy until book 10…so god only knows what TB will do with him LOL.
I have to admit that I was never really all that impressed with Claudine, or most of the fae, in the books either. The only ones that seemed interesting to me were Niall (just because we don’t really know much about ALL of his motives) and Things 1 and 2 (because they were evil). The kiss to break the spell on Dermot at the end of DITF…just no.
So TB Claudine seems pretty par for the fae course IMO.
I have to agree, Viking Dame. I always kind of felt that Claudine in the books was a convenient pop-up saving device and — pardon the pun — an exposition fairy. She began to be more of a character in book 9, what with the pregnancy (when it felt briefly that she actually had a reason to exist other than show up to rescue Sookie), but she got killed.
For what it’s worth, however, I can easily see AB and True Blood making a very different Claudine (and Claude, and Nial) and turning them around very differently from the books. As irritatingly moronic as that Fairly Land appeared in season 3, I don’t believe for a second this is what it is for real. AB does not do saccharine fluff unless it covers up something pretty scary. Which we know it does. I fully expect Claudine to be different. What I guess I hope for is that it’s not as different as Hotshot. (That was way, way much. It felt like AB read the books and all he gleaned from that settlement was a giant neon sign flashing in his mind screaming “Inbreeding!” Yes, they were inbred. But it wasn’t their only defining characteristic. And why crystal meth? Sorry, digression.).
Anyway, I guess I’m more interested in Claude than Claudine, because he actually develops into an (admittedly bizarre but rather close) family for Sookie.
I agree on all points. I will eat my shoe if the S4 fae continue to be the Summer’s Eve road show. AB would surely want to run with the darker nature of these beings, but how far he runs with it is the question.
Has AB even confimed that we would meet Niall? I hope that this Queen Mab isn’t a replacement for him.

What we’ve seen so far in Doucheland is NOT what they are ultimately going to turn out to be.
I agree with VD and hiddeneloise, apart from my Quinn hate (I really don’t want him in TB, or to say better, I don’t want ANOTHER SUITOR for Sookie – that place is already crowded enough), I wasn’t very fond of the fae characters even in the books. Only Niall sort of piqued my interest. But Claudine, Claude… If AB had chosen to leave them beyond I wouldn’t be missing them.

I’m not keen to see Quinn coming in as another suitor at this point either – but if Ball plans to continue using the bones of the books Quinn is really inevitable.
The Nevada vampires dominate from book 8 onwards, and Quinn’s involvement with them is important in terms of the initial takeover of LA, and their finding out about Sookie.

Mmm I don’t mind Quinn as a character, as long as he’s not getting any near to Sookie. I think in the books it could work because the timeline was not so compressed as it is in the show, but in TB?
We already have Bill, (Sam), Eric, Alcide. AB should give Alcide the role Quinn had in Sookie’s life and use Quinn as a side character – this show already has TOO MANY main characters. The writers have to focus on what is already there.
We have to remember that a 12 episodes per season show is not like a 400 pages book… The story has to be compressed to the core to work well.
I could go either way on Quinn’s introduction, but I DO like that Sookie has a lot of suitors. It reinforces what AB has revealed to us: her blood is intoxicating to supes. It also defines the human/supe divide further.

It is so frustrating that the show adds SO MANY characters instead of focusing on the true main cast.
Wayyy tooo many story lines, I get that its a Tv show, but damn, this isn’t the young and the restless. This very thing was what bothered myself and everyone that watched the show with me…. Too much and alot of wasted time on characters no one really cared for… damn it…. At least I hope Claude is hot, cause the actress for Claudine, not so much…
So, I suspect that Portia will be to Bill what Selah was in the books, any thoughts? Especially since she’ll be showing her lady bits.
I always thought Theo Alexander would have been a perfect Claude instead of Talbot. They need to find a pretty boy, and he better be a brunette.
sigh… It already looks like next season is going to just as much if not more of a mess then season 3. I am kind of exited about Luna though, I was always disappointed that she didn’t ever reappear in the books.
