Another season 4 casting call has appeared on IMDb for the character of Mavis, a young woman dressed 1930′s style:
[MAVIS] Female, African American, 20-30 years old. She is a sad-eyed girl dressed in a modest 1930s dress. RECURRING GUEST STAR. Must speak with a Cajun accent.
This episode will be titled “I Wish I Was the Moon” and is written by Raelle Tucker. Most likely, the song of the same name by Neko Case will feature somewhere in the episode.

I dare not speak aloud what this song choice seems to be referencing; I am superstitious and already incredibly paranoid about what Ball may do with a storyline I consider absolutely integral to the series.
Suffice to say, the similarities are uncanny.
I’m thinking if this is the beginning of AE or if this is where Eric has gained his memories back. The lyrics could point to both options.
But it’s probably too early for regaining his memory.
All I know is that if Ball messes this up…I’ll have his head on my dining room table. Just Sayin’. Amnesia Eric is a must. He better not do three episodes of Eric forgetting and then VOILA! He’s all better and Sookie hates him again. I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. But he messes up my fantasies come true…there shall be no mercy. {laughs} Noneeeeee.
OMG this just gives me the chills, it at least seems that someone is going to have amnesia in this episode. I just hope against hope we will get our storyline.
I really suck at trying to figure out the meaning of lyrics/poetry. But I got a chill up my spine when I listened to the song, and not the good kind of chill. It’s soooo sad. Maybe it will have to do with Jessica and Hoyt? Bad juju!

This year i will take the show for what it will be, im not gonna create high expectations like a i did for Season 3 and then ended up being disappointed.
This song and the fact that Raelle is the writer should mean a good Eric episode and especially the song has a very very deep connection with a man who doesn’t know who he is….

I’m not sure what it will be like, I guess something will disappoint me as usual. BUT… if this year there are less subplots and more airtime is given to the main storyline, it’s a good thing already. I don’t want an entire season of AE and I welcome any change into the original story. I just want some Eric-Sookie progress and I’m convinced we will get it anyway…
By the way, AB could interpret the amnesia thing in a non-literal way. Eric could “forget” who he is in the sense that he is completely lost and confused and he doesn’t know what his values and ideals are, now that he has fulfilled his revenge wish. This state could be caused by a spell like in the books.

I love this and wouldn’t mind this at all. I love that this episode is written by Raelle Tucker.
Yeah Raelle and Nancy Oliver are our favorite Eric writers, and they just write excellent episodes in general (I can’t think of one of theirs I didn’t like), so the fact that Raelle wrote this one is a good sign.
Im with you Hime. Sounds like AE or some version of it to me. I say we stay positive. Yes, we will not always get exactly what we want, but I think this is our season guys.

ive got the feeling it won’t be 100% Amnesia but something else, i always thought Eric would have gone through Madness and then eventually Amnesia as a consequence and of course becouse of a spell that probably was already casted in S3.

Any thoughts on Mavis? If she’s recurring, then is this a continuing flashback throughout ep6 and beyond? It doesn’t say so necessarily, but Depression era garb hasn’t exactly come back in style. A later descendant of Winnie, maybe a sharecropper?

And I'm totally hoping you're right, SVB– I can definitely see how it would fit, that's for sure. However, with the casting call being for a woman in a 30s dress, I can't help but wonder if it speaks to a Bill flashback– specifically, one that will give us a picture of what happened to him after he was released. ("I'm a free man with no place free to go…")
Of course, it could always be referencing both characters– which isn't uncommon for the themes of these songs. Either way, I'm still betting we'll get a glimpse of post-Lorena Bill. How sympathetic that glimpse will be remains to be seen– but if the lyrics are any indication, he will be as emo as ever.

That could be. I have no idea. She could also be a relative of Tara and Lafayette, who somehow appears as an apparition or in a flashback or in another V-type trip– or she could just be some random modern-day Cajun twenty-something in 30s wear with an old lady name. LOL.
Whatever the case, the “recurring guest star” status suggest that she’s more than just some one-off murder victim or somesuch. We shall see!

I’m such a big fan of Neko, too! And this is so coincidental, but just a week or two ago I was listening to this song and thought – “This would make such a good song to use in True Blood for the amnesia storyline.” No lie. I think I should be the music person for the show.
Don’t the songs usually address the overall theme for the episode though, not just one particular character? I mean just because it could fit with Bill doesn’t mean he’s the only one.
If this song/episode references a major character, my guess is Bill. Poor ol’ Bill.
Total speculation here, but maybe Mavis is an elderly relative in the present day and Tara Mae looks her up because she needs a place to stay in her destination city. These could be flashbacks to her younger days because she’s telling Tara her life story, which is hopefully relevent in some way to the storyline. Hopefully the point of the flashbacks has something to do with backwoods Louisiana hoodoo. Alfre Woodard or Adina Porter could play the elderly part with make-up and this is why no casting call. IDK, just wishful thinking because I just want it to be MAVIS’S story, told with her own voice and from her own pov.

I may not trust 100% Alan Ball…but these kind of paralles stuff he walys doeas are there to be taken by us.

Ok after this post I will probably be block from the site… I loved TB s.1 till I read the books, now love the books (waiting patiently for the next one)watch the show for Northman, Sookie and Pam. Like everyone else hoping for AE but in the back of my mind I get nightmare flashes of Amnesia Bill…sorry but I felt I needed to share my fear with everyone else. Ball brought us six feet under but he should stay the hell away from the sookie stackhouse novels. Granted it was renamed but come on show your artistic liberties with something other than the romantic plot of the most dynamic charcters of the novels….auuurgh.

This is why I’m afraid to talk too much about season 4. I keep reading the little spoilers, but try not to think too much into anything, since I’m terrified that Bill will get amnesia (and another shower with Sookie) or Pam will get killed in a witch war or Jason will become packmaster of Hot Shot. (yeah, that last one… way too likely…)
I don’t have any doubt that it will be Eric getting the amnesia, I think AB even said it would be him at the ComicCon. Pam is now a regular character and will not be killed, she’s a fan favorite. Jason will very likely become a packmaster later on, but I think Felton will take him like in SSN and Sookie will be looking for him.
I’m almost positive that Bill and Sookie are over (but not in Bill’s mind though). He has been taken down such a dark road and he will only go further that way, that is what AB likes. I also think he will be even more devious in trying to get Sookie back than in SSN.
I don’t need to see Eric running down a road half naked or Sookie washing his feet. What I want is the essence of E/S in SSN to be shown on TB. I want to see the understanding, respect, trust, tenderness, romance and easyness that S/E have for one another in the books. When everybody wanted Sookie to do this and that, behave in different ways and to be something that she’s not; Eric was the only one who just got her and didn’t want her any different and liked her for exactly what she was with all her qualities and faults. And I want ‘the list of Sookie qualities’ too! That is one of my favorite part of DTTW.
I may not trust AB, but I don’t think he will give Bill Eric’s storyline from DTTW. There is no sense in that. Bill losing memory and Sookie caring for him? Not going to happen.

Completely agree on this Freyja. I also think that an Amnesia Bill would be totally lame. Not only because it would be a douche move in regards of us book readers, but it would be a boring story. I mean… we already know how Bill and Sookie are together. What’s the point in making Bill amnesiac so he can get closer to Sook AGAIN? Like he had done something else during the last 3 seasons? It would be like a replay of season1, totally useless. We won’t have what we expect as it is in the books, that’s for sure, but AmnesiaBill is not on the horizon, IMO.

Possibly six episodes of Sookie/Eric sex? I won’t complain
I can see Eric and Sookie making love to this song, I think he will get amnesia at the end of the 4.2 and build up to the sex scene. I am not afraid to hope(just not too much), it will be epic. I am feeling a little giddy..haha!
Yeah I’m giddy too, but tryng to be detached at the same time. I just don’t trust Alan Ball. I have a feeling E/S won’t come together until the middle or latter part of the season, not that that’s necessarily a bad thing. The waiting would be worth it if there’s a good build up and the end result is epic. Not just hot sex, but the intimacy that is so evident in the books, the kind that wraps itself around your emotional gut and makes your heart pound. With such talented actors, ESPECIALLY, Skars (OMG, I dare not even think of how wonderful he’d be) this could be one of the most powerful and poignant scenes this season…maybe even in the show’s history so far. I don’t think anything could top the rooftop scene in season two, but I’d like AB and the writers to try. If it’s the Eric/Sookie storyline, all the better!
BUT…I’m getting ahead of myself. I’ll remain cautiously optimistic. I should just make that my mantra for this season.
I fully expect to have to wait cause if there is no buildup it takes away all the fun. I want to see buildup and then have us be blown away when it actually happens.

Not always. For example, “I’ve got a right to sing the blues” was played during the Bill/Lorena torture scene in ep.3×06. Also “hard hearted hannah” (2×06)… “Evil is going on” (3×12), and many others.

It looks like ‘first time sex’ is in all seasons episode 6. Bill/Sookie, Jason/Sarah, Jason/Chrystal… so I think it’s quite possible that Eric/Sookie first time is in this episode. The lyrics certainly point to it.

I’m letting myself be optimistic, and I agree with Serena that this song speaks more to a S/AE consummation than to an AE introduction. Also, I can’t help but think that the lyric “With my heart in my lap” could be a reference to the GP.
I just want S4 to get here already so we can see how all this is going to play out. I’m trying really, really hard not to get too attached to any specific scenes that I create in my mind. But it’s hard! :-{

I understand why it’s done, but people should stop trying to fit in spoilers with possible plot points and timelines from the books, because it will not happen that way and you’re only setting yourself up.
The writing on TB is highly structured. Among other things lastt year I predicted that Lorena would catch on fire and give up her life so that Bill could live months before the spoiler about a fire and that Sookie would see Eric having sex with someone before she went to Jackson.
That’s no reason to “stop” speculating, Lydia.
The books ARE the bones of the TV series, and as such they’re fair game for speculation. No one is saying that the show will pan out word for word – in fact, I think most people have well and truly moved on from that mindset.
But the fact remains that Ball IS picking up the main themes from the books. What we’re trying to do here is work out what he will run with, and what he’ll throw away.
Speculation, as I see it, is a matter of throwing shit at a wall and seeing what sticks. And we throw shit at the wall by the truck load.
Most times it slides off into a puddle, and that’s fine. But sometimes….just sometimes…it sticks.
And pardon my crudity, but the sticky shit is all we’re interested in. If we have to throw a truckload to find a spadeful that means something…then that is what we shall do

I dont think anyone thinks the books wll be copied to the screen, and I for one have no problem with that…yes, we didn’t get every single scene from the book, but others were added and changed and the direction is still the same.

I, for one, welcome any change in the book storyline, as long as there is a lot of Eric and a development in his relationship with Sookie. We all know that AB’s story will be different from the books, but that makes things even more intriguing.

I would find the Laffy stashing AE in the freezer scenario extremely hilarious. I love those two together! However, that seems like a really poor hiding place, like really, really poor. I can see it as a super temporary measure, though.

If Raelle wrote it, there may still be hope, but I’m not one to actually jump on the hope boat. I was grossly misled last season and I won’t fall into that trap again. I almost damaged my TV and remote over it.

Don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but I was immediately put off by the description in the casting call for an African-American woman who must speak with a Cajun accent. Ah, sorry, but that would be CREOLE, not Cajun, (and yes, there is a difference!). A simple Google search would explain this. (And a quick perusal of the e-books would’ve uncovered Pam’s last name, not that unintelligible crap they came up with last season.) The laziness in the the details on TB, and the bad stereotypes/charactatures makes my native Louisianian skin crawl! I’ll be watching S4 and hoping for AE, but I’m not expecting very much from this show anymore. Sorry y’all. Hope I’m proved wrong!
They’ve changed a lot of the characters last names, so it’s not laziness, that’s just what they wanted to do. I don’t think its a big deal. If you focus on minor details, you will drive yourself crazy.
I don’t recall other names being changed at random like Pam’s, especially when she already had such a great one. And I wish it were just minor details, but it’s not. TB Sookie is unbearabale at times to me; she’s not the strong, can-do Sookie from the books. Eric was very OOC in S3; where was his sense of humor? And don’t get me started on what TB did to Calvin Morris and Sam’s horrible white trash family. The Southern stereotypes are insulting to everyone because it dumbs down the characters and plot.
That being said though, TB has done some outstanding things apart from the books: not killing Lafayette, creating Jessica, Russell & Talbot. But there’s so much fuckery and jumping the shark for me now, I’m just not invested anymore. I usually don’t even read or post about TB anymore, I’m just having one of those nights! LOL. So, I’m not trying to take away anyone’s enjoyment of the show. Just giving my 2 cents worth. And I really do hope I’m wrong about S4!
They changed Lorena’s last name too, to Krasinki or something. I know it was something different in the books. Honestly, the show is very different yes, but I meant small details like name changes. In the end that won’t matter.
I don’t think they meant to protray all southern people as dumb white trash types, just hot shot and Sam’s family. Sam is nothing like that. Hot shot is an inbred community in the books…they ran with that on the show. I actually kind of expected them to portray hot shot that way on the show…I mean there is no way to make inbreeding pretty, right? And I can’t feel bad about Calvin Norris because wasn’t fond of the book character and the show has too many character so I wasn’t sad to see him go.
I will agree with you about TB Sookie, she could be a moron, but Im hoping a lot of that was Bill’s influence and his blood.
As for Eric, he has a sense of humor, he’s just more serious on TB, but that’s ABs style. I don’t know, I like him the way he is. But I guess that’s personal opinion though. We’ve seen some humor from him though…for example, the “eye fucking” line and “I want my phone back” and “See anything you like?” and in the graveyard when Eric said his bullet wound would be better if Sookie had sucked it out LOL…all of those lines were TOTALLY reminiscent of Book Eric. So he’s in there. I think Season 4 will be a good season for us, even if there are things that we don’t completely like. There will always be good and bad moments right. Honestly, the angst and buildup is half the fun.
Yes, CH gave Lorena the last name of “Ball” *snicker* in Bk 10, but that was after TB had named her. Glad you’re enjoying the show. It definitely has it’s moments which is why I will continue to watch. Just wish I didn’t want to look away so much from the other stuff. Oh well…
Maybe you’ll feel differently after Season 4. You never know, right?
If you feel the show is somewhat destroying the story from the books, then there’s no need to keep on watching. You will feel betrayed everytime it diverts from the original story (and it will divert, it’s a reality). In the show there are interesting parts and boring – sometimes awful – parts, in this I agree. But to me, it’s the same in the books. There are a lot of pages which I simply want to skip. But that’s just me.
Changing surnames is not a vital matter, and I simply can’t bother for Calvin Norris’ fate because I never really cared for him in the books. I don’t even think Eric was OOC. TB Eric is slightly different from his book counterpart and IMO he’s even more interesting. I also think TB Eric HAS sense of humour, a lot. Quieter, colder and subtler than in the books, but he definitely has.
Agreed Hime. And I myself fell in love with Eric on TB first because I didn’t read the books until the end of Season 2. By then I had already figured out the show was leading to a S/E pairing. The books just solidified what I already suspected.
TB Eric has a boat load of humor IMO
I love his humor in every season in every episode. He has the best dialogues and one liners along with Pam like in SSN. He is a bit colder, quieter and more subtle like Hime says but I don’t like him any less. He has a lot of love and honor in him, it shows even more on TB because we get to look behind the scenes (not only from Sookie’s POV), this is one of the things I love about TB, they really get Eric!
I’m with you Hime on wanting to skip chapters in SSN. I hated the Hot Shot bits in the books and the were politics and S/B + S/Q. The books aren’t The Holy Grail, but I do love them as I do TB.
Yes, Freyja, me too. I like the books, but I don’t mind some changes in the right spots. Speaking of which, I would appreciate if the show didn’t feature all the supernatural beings that are in SVM. I always thought that plethora of demons, half-demons, were-foxes, were-bats, goblins, pixies & co. wouldn’t work on TB. I would love if TB focused more on vampires than on anything else… Not only because I like the vampires better, but also because vamp politics and all that’s related to them is more “real”. When all the supes started to pour into the books, I just felt like the story had lost its grip on reality in some way.
Ooohh, I am not getting my hopes up, but this is the first time Ive gotten excited about S4! The lyrics definitely made me think of AE and even gave me the chills in the pit of my stomach as I read them! If the love/romnace scenes have even a little bit of the intimacy they shared in S2ep10 when Sookie’s comforting eric, Ill be ok with it. Its hard to think they will do the book justice but let’s hope for the best. June is so very fary away!
Maavis makes me think of Diane as she was turned around that era the casting call is referring to. Mavis could be related in a roundabout way to Tara and been used by Diane or Bill. It could be the subconscious reason Tara has been mistrusting of vampires from the very beginning, though now she utterly despises them.
