Dead Reckoning – Walmart Review
April 21, 2011 in Book Spoilers, Dead Reckoning - Book 11
Who’d have thought Walmart would turn out to be the Bearer of Good Spoilers? Not me, that’s for sure.
Forum member LKC picked up the May edition of Walmart’s Book Page brochure while out and about today. And it happens to contain a rather spoilery account of Dead Reckoning, due out on May 3.

Thank you LKC for the scans!

“The right to…(omitted because it’s spoilery)…and the papers to prove it.”
Wow. I did not see that coming. But looks like it’s heading in a direction that has been discussed on this site.
It’s fine in the comments – the warning is just for those who may rather not click through the post. One warning is enough LOL.
Thanks for clarifying. I figured they’d been warned, but I wanted to be safe.
My hat is off to you Serena. Thanks for finding LKC and posting SVB.
Holy Mackeral!! I can not WAIT!!! Thank you SVB!!!
HOLY FREAKING CRAP!
SO EXCITED!
The paperwork to prove it? What the what now?
So that’s why the original name of the book was Dead Letters. The paperwork thing seems to be the leading theme for DR.
Thanks so much for this
SVB and co. called it! Kudo’s
I can’t wait to get my hands on this book!
SPOILER ALERT: I want to right to claim him! How do I get my hands on this paperwork?
This is really cool. I like the sound of more Sandra Pelt. She’s so focussed and dedicated. That girl just won’t quit!
Second that on wanting those papers.
Perhaps we need to set up a task force to go looking for that paperwork.
Right to claim him and the paper work to prove it? Hmm, interesting.
So could Appius transfer rights to a progeny? It doesn’t sound like a marriage type situation.
Interesting….
@rainqueen13
[So could Appius transfer rights to a progeny? It doesn’t sound like a marriage type situation.]
All marriages between vampires aren’t based on love but in interest and convenience, especially when are queens or kings involved.
I’m actually convinced that Appius arrival wasn’t only with the purpose to ask Eric for help with Alexei, but also to negotiate this marriage agreement in order to protect Eric’s “life”. He was hideous, but no one can blame him for hadn’t loved his children. He could have sensed the emotions of his child and must knew his life was in danger because of Victor, so he did what any concerned vampire “father” who loved his progenies could do. He sought the way to give him more power to overcome the danger he was facing. I’m also completely convinced that Eric knew about this agreement and that’s why his behavior was so odd and unfocused, and why Sookie always was feeling such incontrolable burst of emotions from Eric through the BB since the moment Appius arrived. And that’s also the reason Eric is so nervous about Pam’s comments to Sookie and why he’s now hiding his plans from her. He has decided to go against Victor, not only because her’s a threat against him and Pam, but because he wants to sweep the danger in order to have a reason to avoid this previous marriage agreement.
I love this place! The book and show developments get called months before they are in print and on screen. And it’s because the people here, both the mods and the posters, are intelligent, discerning readers and viewers who are paying attention! This development for Eric and the potential marriage to a queen has been predicted here how long ago? Awesome!
Ditto!!
That’s why this is the best place for bookies and trubies…becouse people here are smart, intelligent, funny and really get both books and tv show!!
GAH!!!!! Kudos to Serena!! I can’t stand this!!
Love this part – “the one thing she values more than her own life?” *sigh*
Yeah, I liked that part too, for sure.
*sigh*, me too. And so like Sookie to realize too late what she had. However, if it’s true that she was raised to fight back, it seems like she’d use her southern charm to help Eric get out of it or fight to defend him the way he always has for her.
Me too! FINALLY the girl’s eyes are open. And if she really does feel that intensely about it (giving it the benefit of the doubt since reviews can’t always be completely trusted in their evals), she’ll definitely fight for him. I can’t wait!
Thanks LKC for sharing this with us.
Do you think Ocella “sold” Eric to Freyda?
Ooh, that’s an interesting thought! The “right” to claim him and the paperwork sure speak of some sort of prior agreement by someone somewhere. And since Eric has never mentioned entering into any such agreements before, who else can do this on his behalf?
Poor Eric, he must feel like a piece of meat.
Eric feeling like a piece of meat? Are you serious? That would be a butt roast, right? As per Charlaine, Eric is all about Eric. He loves no one more than himself. Personally, I can’t wait until he meets the business end of a silver stake.
@wont – “Personally, I can’t wait until he meets the business end of a silver stake.”
If that’s how you feel, you probably need to get busy writing some fanfiction. Ms. Harris has been very clear that both Eric and Sookie will survive the series.
wonttorit has probably already written some fan fiction;) You should post it wont. I’m sure we’d all love to read it.
OMG It was a joke!
Boy, Sookie STILL loving Eric and telling it to everyone who would listen as of the tenth book really chafes the hides of some people, huh?
Wow. Just wow. Bitterness can be equal parts hilarious, sad, and puzzling at the same time. You learn something new everyday. Thanks for that wont.
It’s sad to see Mencheres as your avi and knowing that Jeaniene Frost loves Eric soo much that she thought even about him while writing Bones….
Don’t hold your breath while waiting for Eric’s death…:)
I would think only a maker or that vampire’s monarch, in this case FDC.
Yeah I think Ocello “sold” him off and that’s the “unwelcome other business” He has with Eric in DITF.
Ocella’s comment at the end of DITF “You won’t keep him” was always suspicious.
So true, Ashley.
It sure does. It also gives new meaning to Eric telling Sookie that she is his wife in the only way that matters to him.
Bravo Serena for calling this. That’s why this site is heads above most.
I’m definitely curious to know what benefit Freyja will get out of this deal. Is she looking to take over La herself by using against FDC the one Sheriff who feels the least amount of loyalty? What is her angle?
Gay! It needs to be May 3rd already!!!
That should read *Gah* not *gay*.
Please remind which part of the book this is from… I don’t remember…
Mrs. Northman If you mean the “wife in the only way it counts” comment, It’s on pages (244 and 245). Eric talks about Sookie “belittling” their marriage. I think Sookie goes to Fangtasia and Appius, crazy progeny, and Eric are there. The “you won’t keep Eric, either” is page(306) comes from the end of the book right before Appius dies. If those were the comments you wanted to know about?
That’s the impression I got. And it would solve the problem of him not being King (for her to marry him), yet still give her control over him.
Thank you so much for this!! Gack…waiting for this is killing me!!
HOLY CRAP!! That was a ton of spoilers!! I don’t even know where to start! Great job Serena, you were right on about a new queen! And Sandra Pelt, where’d she come from?
Oh my goodness, I can not wait until May!!
Why? why am I not more stronger? I’m so so weak! I need this book now!
That deserved its own page.
Man, this must just all stick in Eric’s craw. Sookie realized in DITF that above all else Eric feared the loss of control. And here he is, a pawn himself. I’m guessing that he was thinking that whatever deal Ocella brokered would be null and void after his death. Eric remarked “I’m free.” I guess he was wrong. Poor guy.
ITA, VD.
I didn’t think about that but you’re right! Sookie realized that what Eric feared at most it what she also feared at most: Losing Freedom. And now he seems he might lost this freedom again…This seems a pretty awsome book, intense for sure!! Now i got why SVB said she was crying and it was heartbreaking via twitter.
I really need to read this book like now!
How come Eric didnt know something regarding Vampire politics? He should know he could be sold or what soever happened to him? He is an old Vampire a king in becoming (in my mind).
Maybe he knew it was possible but really didn’t think it would happen, don’t know. If it’s his maker i think he really didn’t think he would have done it since in DITF Eric said it was long time since the last time they met.
If it’s FDC maybe he always knew but didn’t tell Sookie becouse we know how she is…or maybe he had a plan in mind, idk.
Poor Viking..
Maybe it’s more like an arranged marriage. Freyda and Ocella both wanted something from each other, and Eric was the chattel.
eric, chattel, that makes me shivering.
I’m wondering if this is normal in the vampire world? Or maybe it’s the old ways from ages ago… I mean, after the big revelation the vampire ways have changed. Occella was pretty set in his old views, if I remember correctly.
I am still reading the old post so you might have talked about that allready. But I did wander how his maker just pop in after a few centuries(dont really buy the sick child, he had always been for sure). Victor might have calded him to be rid of Eric.
If it is FDC, it means they have 2 wars in the same time, would be tough even for them.
It might be Victor, in DR chap 3 Eric told him “We’re all a part of your turf, Master” (master beurkk!!). Dunno
and how Sookie maybe to become more fae? what does that mean? ( I dare to dream that Sookie can have a longer life? o.O , not that I would be disappointed with the “normal” life, but it would be cool, would be!), i’m gnawing my nails in anxiety!
Oh bugger! What right? What paperwork? I’m going to worry myself sick about this now.
Don’t fret so Ladies! We have plenty of very talented people here so I’m sure that one of them can procure (read that as “forge”) the necessary paperwork to give ownership of a certain someone exlusively to us…
As for the spoilery review – Holy Crap! /passes out
Thanks for the post! gosh!!! like you said serena fund for the Queen. but I (we) taught it would more like a agreement or alliance. with this review doesnt sound like this at all. Freyda, could she be eric “grand mother”? a maker can sell his child???
Looks like Serena was right about the queen :O What paperworks could she have to claim Eric? Who has the right to give him away???? His maker or maybe Filipe?
aawww
I liked this: Is Sookie in danger of losing the one thing she values more than her own life?
Looks like Sandra is taking up after her sister Debbie.
“Is Sookie in danger of losing the one thing she values more than her own life?” – i loved this part too!! AWWWW!!!!
Maybe they both agreed to sell Eric? I think FDC would do it, if he fears Freyda and doesn’t want to marry her he could have told her to look for someone else in his Kingdom and Eric is the only survivors from QSA’s and hot as hell and a good money maker…
I always suspected we haven’t yet been told the real reason for Ocella’s visit. And high fives all around to those on this site who suggested the queen was after Eric!
Well, really, who can blame her?
I liked this too, it is allways when you are loosing someone that you realise how much you care about him.
In DITF, Eric said to sookie that his sick brother was one of the matters his maker brought. Maybe he knew back then. But at the end,as VikingDame said, Eric thought he was free??!!
Yes it’s pretty sad that Eric thought he was free when he clearly is just a pawn
And now I think it’s time for Sookie to fight to keep Eric!
If one effect of this claim by Freyda is for Sookie to fight to keep Eric, it might not be as bad and sad as I have been thinking.
How I hate to not know, and to not know what CH has in mind for the end of the series. I can’t stand the drawn out angst of it all.
She was raised to fight back!!
And I love when she fights for the ones she loves.
Hopefully, The “becoming more fae” will help her viking and her.
@Serena, in a way I envy you but I also fell sorry for you knowing the end and being not able to talk with us about it
Yeah, I think Sookie will have to step up. I think that the possibility of losing Eric will spur her into action. I think it will be a good development in that respect. Of course I don’t like the idea of someone attempting to force Eric to do something like this though.
I would LOVE to see Sookie fight for Eric, in the romantic sense. She is quite accustomed to having male supes always being attracted to her. She never had to work very hard at all to attract the attentions of Eric, Alcide, Sam, Quinn, Calvin. I don’t necessarily include Bill here since she was his mission so she never had to attract him at all. Sookie could have picked boogers out of her nose and Bill still would’ve had to sidle up to her. Anyway, they have all remained quite devoted to her in their own ways throughout the books. But if Sookie is faced with losing Eric, for whatever reason…what then? How will she respond? She did joke to herself once that is Eric had any old girlfriends they’d better watch out. Not sure is Freyja is an old girlfriend or not but…
Viking Dame, I do think Fredya might have to watch her back because Sookie already killed two of her boyfriends ex’s like you mentioned. I guess you can’t underestimate Sookie. I would like to see her fight for Eric, he has been the one to do the pursuing. It is so true men just fawn all over Sookie and maybe she does take Eric for granted. One of the reaseon’s I liked Trey so much was that he wasn’t interested in Sookie.
HA, i love it.. it appears that the Viking is on his path to Kingship
I knew it was friggin’ Sandra Pelt! Not that anyone cares who bombed Merlottes, but I was sure it was gonna be her. I’m excited to see her return, though.
That Appius. Must be his fault. Sookie will be forced to finally fight for Eric, and I’m convinced she will.
I don’t know whether to yell at Walmart or shop there exclusively from now on.
Oh, and I know we’re all focused on the Eric bits (heh), but what the f@#* does ” feeling more and more fae” mean????
o-o
Could it really be?
it’s sort of funny that Debbie’s sister is back ( i really didnt expect to see Sandra agian).. i still wonder how Victor got his hands on some Fae blood??
Thanks for this post. Serena is on the money again!!! I actually wasn’t expecting Sandra Pelt, but I should have! I can’t wait to meet Queen Freyda. I get more excited about this book every day! Victor must DIE!
It occurs to me that Sandra Pelt’s father must be either dead or ill, because back in Definitely Dead, he tells Sandra that he will challenge her at the next full moon and take her down in front of the pack if she doesn’t stay away from Sookie.
Both her parents are dead – they were hit broadside by a truck. Ewww -what a way to go, as I recall, was Sookie and Amelia’s response. When Sookie figured out that Tanya had been sent by Sandra Pelt to mess with her, she and Amelia discover they had recently died. Then Sandra put together “operation bug Sookie to death”. Amelia and Octavia fix the Tanya problem with witchcraft, but Sandra was still out there. And now she’s back!
Thanks krtmd,
I had forgotten that Sandra’s parents were killed!! I remembered the Tanya thing, though. Geez. Sandra needs to die too!!!
Yeah and does anyone think Sandra was responsible for her parents “accident”?
LKC I never thought of that but I do think Sandra is capable of it. I figured when Sandra’s parents said that Sandra would stay away from Sookie for as long as they were alive that they would die. I was not surprised to find out that Sandra’s parents died just how it happened was surprising and unfortunate.
Spot on for those who saw the involvement of Freyda.
The claim does seem like Ocella has thrown Eric in as a sweetner in his own business dealings. That was the only problem I had with it coming up now as Eric even with the power base he had had little to offer a monarch if it was a deal he sought off his own back. Him being the gift wrapped deal sealer makes more sense.
Lets hope at a summit this can be settled because if Eric has inherited Ocellas rights, title etc he can call the deal off as it could now be null dependant on various vampire legal technicalities.
Sandra Pelt is a cool recall but bit nervous about this paperwork, would this overrule his marriage to Sookie?, I mean they’re marriage is official in the vampire world isn’t it? Good theorys on it either being FDC or Eric’s maker. What I do like is that it’s something external trying to tear them apart so I’m guessing they do everything they can to stay together? I cannot wait to read this book.
If the claim can’t be declared null perhaps there’s a bit of wiggle room for further negotiation on terms. This could be ongoing over the rest of the series depending on how much grounds there are for challenging it. I suppose if its not water tight tough go when your reqested type of thing then it may be possible to lodge an appeal for hearing at the next summit which could put things on hold for a while.
You all know I’ve read the book – but I think there’s going to be a summit in 12 and Serena and I discussed this way back, last year. That call isn’t based on anything that was in DR. Given the book timelines, and what Eric said about the timing of summits in DITF we are definitely due for one….either in 12 or the final book.
Ah, thanks SVB. I was just trying to figure out how much time has passed since the Rhodes summit to see if we might be due for another one.
How did u read the book already?!?!?! Omg… I almost wish I could read it already and get it done with, but I like the angst of waiting for it…. Just please tell me something… Is it good? Unpredictable?? I’m down the the stump of my fingers, I have no more nail to chew.
Yes please tell me too if it’s good especially if you are devoted fan of Eric. I’m so worried of being disappointed that Sookie will end up with Quinn or someone else. I would have a major fit lol.
Wha!? The things about a “life changing discovery” and Sookie feeling more Fae-like are really the biggest surprises here, for me. I always thought the letters in the attic would provide some sort of context or explanation for Gran and Fintan, NOT that it would have any direct effect on Sookie, herself. And since we’ve been told time and time again that Sookie’s life span won’t be extended by her Fae heritage, could she be acquiring some sort of new fae magic? Hopefully, based on that summary and that past 10 books, it would be something with which she could successfully defend herself!
Oh, and thank you, Walmart… I’m having an absolute panic attack to get my hands on this book!
Thanks SVB and LKC for spoiling us! I love it. Laurels to Serena for calling the Queen thing waaaay back in October. The summits were held at different times for different clans right? I wonder when Oklahoma’s is scheduled? I’d love to see another summit…
I can’t wait.
Oh WOW…this is MAJOR stuff! I wake up in the morning to this behemoth of a spoiler!
But yeah this blog is prescient I tell you…!!!
I can imagine this scenario being intense for E/S…
Cannot wait for May 3rd for my pre-ordered copy to arrive at my door step….woo hoo…
Ahh I can’t resist reading spoilers of any sort.
This opens up so many question! Does the queen want Eric for political reasons, or simply because. Could she help out with the Victor/Fellipe situation? Is that her motivation? Did Eric know about this? I’m going crazy with speculation.
Also, why is it that the Pelt girls have a habit of showing up at the worst possible time? I really was not expecting her to show up, although I guess it was suggested when they mentioned her parents dying. I hope it does not detract too much from the other storylines.
It will be interesting to see if there is some past history between Eric and Freyja.
So, I know why I’d want Eric but I’m curious if that’s Freyda’s only motive. Could there someone who is using Freyda and the marriage to separate Sookie from Eric? Other than Ms. Harris, I mean;)
[...] You can check out the scans of the flyer over at the Sookieverseblog! [...]
Oh my God I can’t wait for the book. I want to see Sookie fight for Eric but I am more worried than every about them.
ack. i’m not reading ANY more until May 3rd. lol
Eric’s maker said before he stopped in Bon Temps, he had passed through OK so he probably was in OK to make some deal with Freyda.
Ocella gave Eric to Freyda in order for her not to proceed against him and the tsarevitch for wreeking death and mayhem in OK. No……… Eric, talk this over with Sookie before all hell breaks loose. I was just thinking about Serena’s theory today while rereading Book 10.
Eric: “Ocella has some business to discuss with me…Some unwelcome business.”
and
Sookie: “So your maker brought Alexei to you hoping that you’d have some bright ideas about keeping your half brother alive, teaching him some self-control?”
Eric: “Yes. That is one of the reasons.”
Serena—you are a genius.
Lololol. Not a genius, lol! But I certainly threw a lot of spaghetti against the rhetorical speculative wall, lol. Thanks though!
Yeah you can find the posts under my screenname in ‘popular tags’ on the right hand side bar.
Well I’m pretty GD impressed. Can’t say I’m GD happy about it, but I’m impressed.
Does anyone have the link to Serena’s brilliant forum article on Freyda and Eric…I want to reread it and can’t find it in the search function.
Check in the Start button, it’s there
It’s best to use the tags or categories on the side if you’re looking for anything – it’s tagged under DR (Dead Reckoning)
But you can also find it here: http://www.sookieverseblog.com/2010/10/22/texas-take-em-a-lesson-in-vampire-politics/
Thanks for the link…and Serena, YOU.ARE.A.GENIUS. No one but you caught this little gem that may turn Eric and Sookie’s world upside…and mine, too, if truth be told.
I liked this book much better than the last several books. I think it sets up quite few intereting plot lines in the final two books.
I am a heavy Bill fan and I can’t fault how CH treated Bill in this novel; he came of very gentlemanly and noble. In fact I like his character even more after this book. His love for Sookie shows through clearly, but sometimes a lover clearly has to admit when he has lost, and I believe that has happened in this book. I am very glad that he did not try to take advantage of Sookie during the naked resting place scene; that would have been pathetic. I liked his teasing humor with her. I even liked the fact that he defended Eric instead of trying to knock him when he had the chance.
I have to admit that CH has finally shown the emotional connection between Sookie and Eric. It was lacking or seemed forced in previous books IMHOP. Having said that, I do believe that Eric and Sookie’s relationship is in a very dangerous place, and I don’t think it will survive in the long run. The biting scene, was a turn off for me; it is never okay to physically hurt the one you love even when you are p.o.d at them. I know Eric has been suffering emotional pain in this book, but he should have been more patient with Sookie: he knows she hates the blood and violence, and he had to guess how finding out about his pre arranged marriage to the Queen of Oklahoma would affect her. Sookie understands her relationship with Eric had reached a turning point; I think that bodes badly for the viking.
Eric was vicious to Pam in this book too. I did not like the way he beat the heck out of her to keep her quiet about his arranged marriage. I know most people on this site won’t like to hear this, but Eric did seem rather abusive in this book.
