Coming Soon – Deadlocked Week
April 26, 2012 in Deadlocked - Book 12, Housekeeping, Sookie Stackhouse
It’s just a few more sleeps until the release of Deadlocked!
I’m putting the finishing touches on my review now, and as usual it will be posted here on the day the book is released. I was lucky enough to read Deadlocked a number of weeks ago, so I’ve been able to read it twice and really let it sink in. I’ve really enjoyed being able to take my time over the review and add new insights and ideas over weeks rather than days! The review itself won’t contain major spoilers, however spoiler virgins should probably avoid the comments until they’ve completed the book.
I’ve also got a few posts planned for late next week exploring some of the more…”pressing” developments in Deadlocked, so be sure to check in for those.
UPDATE:
The Spoiler Discussion thread in the forum is now open. If you aren’t already a member, you’ll need to register for the forum to post.
We hope you’ll join us for what I think will be a rather exciting and emotional week. It’s no understatement to say we’re going to have a lot to talk about!

Looking forward to your review SVB.
“We hope you’ll join us for what I think will be a rather exciting and emotional week.”
There’s no place I’d rather be to talk about the books!
why do i feel like she’s gonna kill off Eric in this one? I think that would be a kill shot to the series.
I don’t think CH will kill Eric off in this book or the final book. I believe she has previously stated that Eric and Sookie will survive the series.
I am really looking forward to reading your review next week! I am so glad the book is finally here and I can’t wait to discuss it here as this is one of my favorite places! We all have a vested interest in this series.
Literally jumping up and down!
Can’t wait to read your review and talk about the book!!
It’s the best part of the year, hands down.
Ah, yes…Spring…when everything starts blooming and there’s a new Sookie book. I’m eagerly awaiting my copy, can’t wait for the review and discussions!
Yay! We’re almost there! Can’t wait for your review
Yes!
Can’t wait. A new Sookie book and a review by Tina, which I look forward to almost as much as the book! It’s going to be an interesting week.
SVB, I didn’t know you had already read it. Why couldn’t you post some spoilers or “fill in the blanks” quotes earlier. I so envy you.
I posted a few hints on the forum over the last few weeks
*smacks hand on forehead* I totally forgot about that. Now I regret reading them LOL
So frickin excited! I am getting off work a bit early on Tuesday so I catch the local bookstore (I have it pre-ordered).
I got a slip from the post office that something arrived for me – so hoping it’s my pre-order from Amazon – yessss – I usually like to take my time with a good book – like a desert – but will be a one night stand with this one so I can come here and read the reviews and analysis – looking forward!
Now I’m not sure I want to read it at all! You’ve got me very, very worried….
Waiting anxiously for the book and for your review.
Can’t wait! I am not getting mine until the evening because I have to go buy it personally at Book People so that I can get her to sign it when she comes later in the week. And I won’t be able to do that until after work! I won’t be able to read it in one day, so I will stay off the board until I am finished.
My first thing afterwards, though, will be to read your review!
So excited! I too have to work that day, so I’m going to hit the book store on my way home and devour as much as I can before bed. Then, the next day I don’t work till the afternoon, so I’m hoping I can finish it up then.
I am super excited about your review and other book posts SVB. Love your book posts!
Can’t wait, SVB! I’m going to see Charlaine speak the night of May 1st, so I won’t be able to start reading until I get home afterwards. Small price to pay for a delayed DL start, I say!
I expect details about this signing on the forum, Skar.
I promise a full report, krtmd! It might take a few days though – since there’s a certain book I’ll be devouring first
What!?! Eric’s not *real*? Noooooooo! Talk about spoilers . . . bwahahaahaa.
No, really, I’m on pins and needles waiting for your review. Can.Not.Wait!
Can’t wait SVB!!!
You mentioned that you read Deadlocked “A number of weeks ago”. Has this affected how you’ve responded to our speculations? If so, I’d like a hint (if possible) when you read the book in advance, otherwise there’s no point in speculating and I don’t want to be tainted by someone’s first hand knowledge.
Samara, you realize this *is* SVB’s site, one she’s created so we have somewhere to share our love of the books and points-of-view? And that she’s obligated not to reveal anything significant about the books, including her review, until the release date? If you don’t want to speculate just for the joy of speculating, you are probably in the wrong place.
I don’t understand why you feel as if you cannot speculate just because SVB has read Deadlocked! She has not and cannot give anything away. From what I know of her, she is a professional in that manner and takes great care not to give anything away when responding to a member’s speculation. It is just not in her nature to do so and it is rude of you to suggest that you have been tainted!
I asked IF it affects how she responds, I am NOT assuming that it does and I am NOT accusing her of anything. I have a right to ask. How a person reads my question is up to them. I know my intention.
Here’s a hint; SVB gets an ARC every year.
Have you done much speculating in the forum? I don’t recall reading any posts from you in the spec threads?
There were plenty of “hints” in the forum that I’d read the book, and you’ll note I haven’t speculated on the blog about plot points in DR for at least a month. I make a deliberate choice not to do this – lest I be accused once the book comes out of having disguised what I knew to be fact as speculation.
Last April, I scrapped an entire 2000 word post on the blood bond that was ready to post – because I received an ARC and DR proved the case I’d just made in the post. Sure, I could’ve posted it and looked really clever when the book came out a few weeks later, because I was correct. And I did write the post before I read DR. But it would be wrong to post when everyone here knew I had just gotten the book.
To answer your question Samara, I am very careful about engaging in spec or influencing other readers before they’ve read themselves.
Thank you. I meant no offense by my question. I was genuinely curious. It’s strong of you to keep your thoughts to yourself weeks beforehand. More power to you. I couldn’t do it.
Cheers!
You think that is bad…my husband out of all the days of the year picks, you guessed it May 1st to go have a colonoscopy done at..you guessed it 9:00 a.m., the exact time the book store opens. I’m going to go the night before and beg for them to let me have it so I can read while I’m waiting for the man….MEN!
Lydia drop him off at the facility then go get your book. Come back and pick him up or better yet if he’s not ready start reading! It’s all good!
well i look forward to the DL review on SVB… maybe, i’ll read what the regulars have to say first before i even get the book **sigh** i was over on the forum reading what alot of the regulars have to say at this point .. so i already know what to expect from DL.. i just want to hurry up & get to DEA or DE whatever the final book will be titled… & i’m still a grand Eric fan
.. a Melancholy atmosphere huh??
I think that I am going to be overwhelmed with grief after reading DL and will need SVB’s review to talk me off the ledge…yet again. I’d be crazy without this site (okay, crazier).
I just started my re- read of DR. I might have to skim some of it to get done in time for DL. I just read all of the Hunger Games books or I would have started sooner. The Hunger Games books were depressing but good so I can deal with melancholy as long as there is some humor. I pre-ordered on Amazon and paid extra for 2 day shipping so I hope the book comes on time.
I nearly had a heart attack when I passed by the bookstore yesterday and deadlocked is already available. I had a funny grin on my face the whole way home. Can’t wait for your review SVB!
I live in a small town in Louisiana. No Barnes and Noble here, so order my books from a small book store. They don’t care about release dates so I always get them early. I just finished Deadlocked and I can’t wait to see what the fans think!
I always pre-order from Amazon and usually get the book a day early from the release date. YEAH…
I love your reviews SVB!!!!
I’ve alway agreed with SVB that Eric is the end game for Sookie, if not in fact, then open for imagination. Charlain has developed and invested Eric’s character too deeply and his connection to Sookie to throw that away.
It’s what happens in the in-between story that has me on pins and needles…WAITING SUCKS!
You lucky puppy SVB to have already read the book…(envy face here) You have the best reviews ever – so I can forgive you!
I sooo don’t like Amelia…and she fits the devious character description, can’t wait to see what happens. Will LaTesta show his ugly face again? Sooo many questions. Ugh…
I used to really like Amelia and was happy that she was going to be in DR. Then, I read the book and did not really like Ameila anymore. Sookie told Amelia that she loved Eric in DAG and she acted like Sookie and her never had that exchange. Then, there was the whole Alcide stunt which I thought seemed weird even for Alcide. Also, there was the way she went about breaking the blood bond.
I hope my pre-ordered copy comes early but I doubt it will.
Yes, CK I think most everyone was shocked by Amelia’s about face on Sookie.
After book 4 DTTW we find out how much power witches have over vampires (Eric’s curse). Amelia doesn’t show up until book 6 DD. We find out she is Hadley’s landlady and has been for some time. Amelia sells herself to Sookie as an apprentice witch (not powerful) and a loud broadcaster, BUT she is able to do a stasis spell on Hadley’s apartment that keeps a vampire from rising (Jake) for months, turns Bob into a cat, and an ectoplasmic reconstruction of Hadley turning Jake. I can’t help but think Amelia worked for Sophie-Ann secretly to keep Hadley safe, so knows all about Sookie and has all along. Amelia used Bob (as a cat) to gain access to Sookie’s home and life.
Could it be Sophie-Ann hanging out in The Hair of the Dog? There was never proof she died, and Seabert lived, (until Sookie ran him over with her car) maybe he hid Sophie-Ann. Victor lied about a lot of thing.
To me Amelia breaking the blood bond and then running to the Hair o t Dog is quite telling. Also Amelia & Bob put a new protection spell on Sookie’s house, then right after 2 human guys show up to kidnap Sookie. Of course Dermot removed the witches protection spell (cuz fairy magic is better) and we know how Sookie got out of that mess.
I think that was just CH pulling a fast one on us…so we overlook Amelia as a possible suspect in having an agenda that involves Sookie and sending someone after her. Sly and devious and if true about Amelia, will hurt Sookie very much to be betrayed by someone she thought was her friend.
Charlaine is a mystery writer and I think is going to pull some fast one’s out of her hat, she’s great at leaving clue’s unspoken.
Even though I think all this about Amelia, I some how believe Octavia is innocent of Amelia’s agenda.
Wow, you put all of my thoughts onto paper. I think that we won’t have to worry about Amelia with Belleos putting a better ward on her house, it can’t help and it appears the Belleos sort of likes Sookie, and may not want to do her harm. I wonder if he could sense the “holes” in the wards that Amelia put on her house. Great post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
“Excited” doesn’t even do my feelings about this release justice. I might have sacrificed someone’s first born to get my hands on a copy early. But seems I’ll have to wait until the official release date to get my fix. I just have to know if Eric is Sookies HEA. Not gonna lie…. I’d be REALLY angry if Charlaine had spent 11 books preparing me for that ending just to tear it down in the last two. We’d probably have to end our relationship.
As for SVB I anticipate your review almost as much as I anticipate the release of the book. Best Reviews… EVER
Thank you bee!
The review will be up in 24 hours or so
agree! will it be posted 12am your time SVB? I might just wait for it
Got a phonecall from my local bookstore Friday evening saying my copy of Deadlocked was in. Couldn’t believe it. Normally in Ireland we are last to get everything. I finished reading it and cant wait for the discussions to kick off and see what everyone thinks of it…
I feel like I did as a kid on Christmas Eve; Instead of Santa I can’t wait to see what Charlaine Harris has for me. I don’t know that I’ll be able to fall asleep tonight!
My book came today!!!! It doesn’t come out until tomorrow but I pre-ordered on Amazon with two day shipping. I didn’t think it would come until tomorrow. Off to read it!!!
Went to my local bookshop this morning at 9am and they still don’t have it out (its due for delivery today). I am tempted to go scouring other bookshops and to hell with loyalty
For those ordering an ebook, don’t forget to check your sites soon, as some will have it available for download at midnight.
Happy reading and see you back here when you’re done
OMG, got my book today…Now ready for a second read. Not at all what I was expecting.
Can’t wait for your review SVB. So ready for everyone’s take on this one…
