The Child Formerly Known As….

May 18, 2012 in Deadlocked - Book 12, Secondary Characters

EOC (Eric’s Other Child), now has a name! And she shall be called….”Karin”. With an “i”.

Thank the goddess we don’t have to keep calling her EOC for the next 10 months.

Ms Harris confirmed the name on her forum earlier today.

I will reveal Eric’s other child’s name. It’s Karin.

Charlaine Harris

While this may hardly be newsworthy for some, those of us who have already spent too much time talking about this woman (and will likely spend much time discussing her in the future!), are quite thrilled to at least have something to call her by!

Karin was first mentioned by Pam in All Together Dead, and mentioned a second time by Niall in Deadlocked. A brief summary of what we know of her to date:

  • She’s female (Pam)
  • She left Eric to strike out on her own (Pam)
  • As a vampire, she doesn’t “rival her maker” (Niall)
  • Thanks to Eric & Sookie Lovers for the heads up.

Deadlocked – #1 on the NYT Bestseller List

    May 15, 2012 in Book 7 - All Together Dead, Deadlocked - Book 12

Some wonderful news for Charlaine Harris today, with the release of the New York Times Bestseller List for the week ending May 5, 2012.

Deadlocked has entered the hardcover fiction list as the top seller for the week. This continues an amazing run on the list, which has seen every Sookie book since All Together Dead (2007) debut in the top 10, and every book since Dead and Gone debut at number 1.

Congratulations Charlaine, this is a remarkable achievement and one to be proud of.

In other news, Ms Harris officially confirmed on Facebook today that the title of the final Sookie will be “Dead Ever After”, and the release date will be May 7, 2013.

Mark your calendars, pencil in some time off, and book an appointment with your shrink. Next May is going to be huge!

You Can’t Always Get What You Want…

May 4, 2012 in Blood Ties and Blood Bonds, Character & Plot Analysis, Deadlocked - Book 12, Eric Northman, Sookie & Eric, Sookie Stackhouse

It’s been a huge week! With so much fabulous discussion over the past few days, and so much new stuff to talk about, it’s been tough just trying to decide where to start. So, I figured we’d begin with the elephant in the room – Eric’s betrothal to Freyda. What does Freyda really want, is this union as inevitable as Deadlocked would have us believe, and if we grant the basic premise that Eric genuinely doesn’t want to leave with Freyda – what will it take to send this pushy bitch packing?

It was impossible to miss in Deadlocked – a triumvirate of evil, to borrow from that other guy.   Constant reiteration of the inevitability of this union, reinforcement of Eric’s compatibility with Freyda and the repeated suggestion that Eric has a hard-on for power; an idea that has been actively quashed in earlier books.   Keep Reading…

    Deadlocked and Loaded

    May 1, 2012 in Deadlocked - Book 12, Sookie & Eric

***This is a post-release review containing lengthy analysis and some spoilers. Comments may also contain spoilers.***

Deadlocked: a state in which progress is impossible, as in a dispute, produced by the counteraction of opposing forces. A standstill, or a stalemate.

Or, to put it bluntly: “I want what I want. You want what you want. And you’d better believe that I’m not gonna be the one who blinks first.”

May is finally here, and another torturous 364 days are behind us. Deadlocked is the twelfth and penultimate book in the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris.  There’s no delicate way to put this – hold onto your hats, peeps, because Deadlocked is an exceptionally wild, and at times uncomfortable ride.  As befitting a title so close to the end of the series, Sookie is in for the usual revelations, confrontations and near death experiences. What is different (and most compelling) about Deadlocked is the extra lashings of angst and soul searching Sookie is now forced to contend with on top of her usual.   As real people know, angst and soul searching are a necessary part of becoming a big girl and, well…sometimes there’s nothing else for it except to just suck it up.

Sookie’s journey is almost over, and this is where the rubber hits the road.
