Dead Ever After Spoilers – Prologue Now Online

April 24, 2013 in Book Spoilers, Dead Ever After - Book 13, Sookie Stackhouse

With less than two weeks to go, I’d pretty much given up hope that the publisher might see sense and release something….ANYTHING…to generate some buzz for this damn book.

It seems the marketing department have finally realised that keeping it in a dusty box under the bed probably won’t cut it. Penguin have released Dead Ever After’s prologue on their official site, and it’s kind of juicy.

WARNING – SPOILERS AHEAD.  OBVIOUSLY.

So it seems we have the set up for a good versus evil showdown of epic proportions in the pipeline.

  • Cope Carmichael (Amelia’s father) and Tyrese have sold their souls to a devil for a questionable price.
  • Mr Cataliades is all over “Just call me Cope” like white on rice.
  • It’s highly likely that Cope’s rage at not obtaining the cluveil dor before Sookie used it will result in her having the crap bashed out of her…again.
  • The Devil saw fit to inhabit the body of someone “standing behind” Sookie either just before, or at the time she was using the CD on Sam. At that time, both Alcide and Eric were in her immediate proximity. Now I’m wondering who else has “sold their soul”…Alcide….cough.
  • Steve Newlin is off sunning himself on the beach somewhere, lamenting opportunities lost when he’s approached by a man who fits the physical description of Johan Glassport – Sophie-Anne’s lawyer from All Together Dead. Glassport specialised in vampire law. Cast your mind back, and you’ll recall that Mr Glassport was seriously injured in Steve Newlin’s bombing of the hotel in Rhodes – and swore to exact revenge. Now he’s accosting an unsuspecting Newlin on a beach. Chew that over for a bit.
  • Amelia has once again proven that she has a yap-hole the size of the Grand Canyon, and is not to be trusted for any reason whatsoever. She MUST be the Crappiest Friend, Ever.
  • This Devil is all up on Sookie – he knows who she is, and finds her “interesting”. Just add the devil to an endless list of supes who can’t seem to resist the charms of everyone’s favourite telepathic waitress
  • Crossroads are mentioned as preferred meeting places for the devil. This adds some clarity to the frequent references in earlier books to a crossroads existing outside Hot Shot.

There’s quite a bit to digest here, for a prologue. It certainly seems like the set up for something rather awesome – what do you think?

Merry Christmas! Charlaine releases Dead Ever After Endpaper

December 22, 2012 in Dead Ever After - Book 13, Eric Northman, Sookie & Eric, Sookie Stackhouse, Symbolism & Motif

As most die-hard bookies know, this is the time of year that The Maker usually drops the first chapter of the new book in our Christmas stocking.

After recent confirmation that we wouldn’t be getting a sneaky peek at the final book, Dead Ever After, we’d resigned ourselves to a lump of coal in our stocking this year.

AND THEN, SANTA CAME EARLY!

This is the end paper for Dead Ever After (for those who need a quick 101, an endpaper is an illustration or design on the “blank” pages before or after the text).

Every suitor in animal form, except Eric.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, VIKING HORDES!

UPDATE:  Sookie reader Z.C at Amazon drew our attention to another illustration by the artist, Lisa Desimini in the children’s book section of her website.  This cover is for her children’s book, “Sun and Moon – A Giant Love Story.”  The synopsis for the book describes “the common fear of being alone in the world, and the universal longing to find one’s other half.”

From the Sun and Moon title, to the layout of the artwork, to the theme of the story you must admit there are some remarkable similarities.

GollanczUK Unveils Cover for Dead Ever After

October 31, 2012 in Dead Ever After - Book 13

Trick or Treat? Definitely a treat. GollanczUK has revealed their cover for the final Sookie Stackhouse book, and it’s not too hard to see what’s in the blood this time.

Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store.

Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived earthquakes, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief . . . and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time.

But with life comes new trials . . .

The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Interesting, although I’m not sure I remember an earthquake…

Let us know what you think!

Dead Ever After Cover Revealed

October 19, 2012 in Dead Ever After - Book 13

It’s like the holidays have come early – USAToday has published the Dead Ever After cover.

Asked why she’s shutting down the series, Harris says, “I felt that I’d told the story I set out to tell. I thought continuing it, which I could have done, would have been a disservice to readers who have stuck with me this long.”

It’s probably the most colorful cover to date.  My initial thoughts?  I see her friends Sam, Alcide, and Quinn in their animal forms – perhaps these are the friends who rally behind her when the trouble hits?  It does appear to me, that while looking back, Sookie is about to walk into the sunset – and we all know what who awakens when the sun goes down.

But enough about what I think.  What do you think?  Sound off below.
